So I've been trying to get my Sager to use my TV as both display and speakers. I have it hooked up via a DVI>HDMI and a 1/8">RCA from the headphone jack. My problem is that I can only get audio or video, but not both simultaneously. I tried Googling about it last night, and spent time with some Sony CSRs not getting it resolved, and they are trying to blame my laptop (predictably) now. RivaTuner says I have driver 186.42 (I thought I installed 19X.XX, but I guess not) NVIDIA drivers. NVIDIA Control Panel detects my TV as a Sony TV XV and allows me only the option of outputting in HDMI mode.

The problem is my TV doesn't have any way to manually override the audio auto-detect for HDMI input, and for some reason, it detects the inbound DVI>HDMI signal as carrying audio, even though that is impossible. That results in the analog audio cutting out as soon as the TV starts getting a signal over the HDMI input. Other than some wonkiness in the cable (6' DVI>HDMI AUVIO brand from Radio Shack, bought new yesterday) or some really weird archaic setting on my laptop somewhere, I can't even begin to guess at what is going wrong. Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks.

Update: I called Xoticpc, and they basically said what I was thinking. There's no reasonable explanation why it could be the laptop's fault.

Since you're using hdmi to output the signal to TV, the TV is assuming the audio is coming from hdmi as well; hence why it's cutting out the analogue audio.

You're going to need to combine the dvi video and the audio into one signal to hdmi. You might need a DVI+audio convertor like this for example: http://www.avlab.com.tw/audio/1007_0008_000ax.htm

No, the input is basically set up to allow you to use DVI>HDMI + analog audio for exactly a situation like this. The user manual even says so. It's supposed to work such that if the incoming HDMI signal carries no message on the audio lines, it fails over to the analog inputs. You aren't supposed to need a $100+ piece of equipment to make it work.

sirmetman: Nice computer I posted the Interface to see if that helps jog someones brain into helping you out. I suggest a chat at one of the parts houses that sell hardware. I do not know why you need a headphone jack to rca on your setup.

    Interface
    1 DVI Port
    1 CRT Port
    4 USB 2.0 Ports
    4 Audio Jacks
    1 RJ-45 LAN (10/100/1000Mbps)
    1 RJ-11 Modem
    1 IEEE 1394a Fire Wire
    1 S-video TV-Out
    1 S-video Video-in (Optional TV-Tuner Module Required)

Not sure what "4 audio jacks" means, unless they mean line in, line out, and 2 other ports that aren't digital or analog stereo (MIDI out and 5.1 out? I dunno.) In any case, since there is no HDMI out, and my TV only has an analog stereo audio in and HDMI in, it's pretty much a moot point in any case. I still need to get analog audio and digital video working simultaneously.
