Samsung
- 23"
- 3 year warranty
- high contrast ratio (does it really matter?)
Hanns
- 23.6" (it doesn't seem like a significant upgrade)
- 1 year warranty
Which would you get? As of now, I am more towards the Hanns... it's 70$ off; Samsung is only $40 off. If it really matters.

AmazingGracePlayer Notebook Deity
Definitely go for Samsung. It's only .6 inches shorter but with 2 extra years of warranty.
-
Hmmm, the warranty is definitely the upside. And Hanns isn't very popular.
I think I will go for it.
And I didn't know, online purchases have no GST. =D Saved $10! WOO. -
I was going to say go with Samsung also...great reliability & that nice warranty!

I have a small laptop 8600m GT, how much FPS will I lose if I use the monitor?
1280x800 is my normal resolution. -
A lot. It varies from game to game, but generally you will lose about 50% of performance.
-
Gah. I'm on the fence now.
To get the 23" or 24" inch Samsung.

The 23" seems to be getting better reviews, or rather more people have it.
1 inch. That doesn't seem to be that much, but I can spend the $30, which isn't a problem. AHHH! Damn. I'm so confused. =(
I got till the 29th to order it. -
hannsg does have HDMI..
-
higher resolution=better.
-
Really. It doesn't seem all that much tho, or is it. I don't know anything about resolution ><
-
Well if your only using your laptop on it and having it setup for an external monitor, I think it would make sense to get a monitor that would be more suitable for your native resolution from your laptop. Doesnt make sense to go huge on something it its going to hinder the maximum performance of your laptop.
-
then what's the point of an external screen without the benefits of higher resolution. a 8600m gt could only play modern games up to 1280*800. downscaling performs progressively better with higher res screens too.
-
The point is that if you try and run higher resolutions than what your laptop is made for with the external monitor, then you will see a noticably drop in performance when done this way.
What I more meant was that if he had a widescreen laptop, he would want to look into a widescreen screen and vice version. Resolution have a big effect also with this on external monitors though. -
performance drop in games running at a higher res, yes. so you use whatever res that gives you acceptable frame rate. what does widescreen has to do with this?
-
The way the display looks, not everything is setup to run widescreen properly or look good.
-
like what?
-
I have no clue what you guys are talking about. =(
I think I should get the 24", smaller resolution. Once I get a new PC, I'll be able to handle it. But for now, I'll just use it to watch HD movies, and so on.
Samsung 23" or HannsG 23.6" Monitor?
