Just got the MP3 player on boxing day($170 for the 16 gig version. Wanted to get the 16gig creative zen, but it was practically 2x as much, and not on sale) and started moving my music onto it.

I have about 10 gigs of music(~2000 files) and its taking 1hour+ to transfer over. I'm positive i have the USB 2.0 drivers installed(and if they werent there, it would be way more then 1.5 hours to transfer 10 gigs at peak USB 1.1 settings) Does this sound right?

    USB 2.0 = 480megabites/60 megabytes
I seem to be getting 2-3megabytes.

Is the View really slow at loading files, or does it sound like mines defective? Cant really try it on another machine right now...

I got one of these a week back and it took several hours to fill it with mp3 files, so I think what you are seeing is normal.

I suspect the slow transfer rate is by design: Either to reduce power consumption and/or use ess expensive memory. It causes no problems in normal use.

The other thing you may find with the View is that, initially, the battery life is way below the claims. For the first 2 or 3 charge cycles mine only ran for 4 to 5 hours, but then it shot up to around 24 hours.

    More at the Sandisk forum.

    Ah, i see...

In actual use, it seems like a great player(though to be fair, i was using the iaudio X5 prior to this, which used the folder tree for navigation so i have low expectations :p) Video looks great, once converted. Good physical/tactile feel on the scroll wheel.

Complaints i have thus far though, are:
    -horribly slow transfer speeds
-Seems to crash winamps sync system. I re-installed winamp, and factory restored the DAP to make sure it was not some fluke. To be fair, this is probably the fault of winamp, as it syncs fine with WMP11(though that seems to be even slower then drag and dropping)
-Kinda on the big size. My brother picked up an E280 which imo is the perfect size for a flash player. If they offered a 16gig version of that player, i would have gladly gone with it instead, even with the smaller screen and weaker file support.

lol, no wonder you think its slow, your used an X5. Those things only have the fastest transfer rate you can get(Not 100% sure on this but its the fastest that I've seen the numbers on).

I agree that the Sansa View is bigger than needed if you only want audio. However, there's not much choice if you want >20GB in solid state storage (my HDD mp3 player started to give HDD errors so I felt solid state was the way forward).

I used drag-and-drop to copy the files (have the View operating, enable hold then press down the left side of the scroll wheel while you connect to the computer).

They fit 32 gigs in the Creative Zen, which is the same height/width as a credit card(and about as thin as the view) also has the same 2.4" screen size.

Why all the button presses? I just have to plug mine into a USB port and it shows up as a drive.

You can drag and drop to the music folder normally. Double click on the player in my computer then double click on internal memory. Drag and drop directly to the music folder. Make sure the files are MP3s or WMAs. Off + Hold + Press and Hold Select + Plug-in, is the forced MSC mode. When you force it into MSC it will show up at a USB Mass Storage Device just like a flash drive and the only difference will be one less click.

Cam, Go to More --> System Info on the player and post what firmware version you have. Updating the the 16A firmware release may help.

I have never tried to transfer 10Gb of music to the View in one shot and I suspect that is why it may be slow. Transfering 1Gb or so at a time the player transfers as well as any other.

Also winamp stinks. Windows Media Player 11 is the easier and cleanest media manager to use for transfering music to all the Sansas.
