Is it possible to stick a screen filter onto a glossy screen to make it less reflective, thereby achieving near-matte quality?

Yes there are anti-glare filters out there.

The one I tried when I had a glossy screen reduced the reflections by about 70 percent. However, it reduced sharpness and color as well.

I had the one by ViewGuard for a little while. Yesterday, I tried to make it fit without bubbles.
It does the job, however looking back, it wasn't worth the expense. The "filter" if you can call it that is in the trash. (I haven't updated my signature yet, that I don't use it.) The major pain in the rear to get the bubbles out is near impossible. And on mine there was a section, lower bottom strip that would not stop attracting air underneath. I think the "sticky" was gone.
To be completely honest, with the $10 price to ship and the HUGE box it took to ship, I wouldn't buy again. I know the "CEO" of company has been around and are trying to make changes, but I've given up. Glossy isn't the best - but it looks a hell of a lot better than the sticky air-bubble ridden "filter" on my laptop.
While the filter did work, it just looked trashy and weird with all these little bubbles on the screen when you first power up the laptop. I could just see others that would use the computer asking, "*** is up with your screen?" -
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
i would say my filter works okay... does cut down on the glare a little

would pasting a filter somehow damage the screen? like the mention of the reduced sharpness and color (vibrance?) - is that permanent? if i stick a filter and don't like it would removing it damage the screen?
@paper_wastage - i saw your pics and the bubbles are... disturbing... -
3m makes a nice filter also.
