    Hi there,

My eyes have never been okay with LCD monitors. My eyes feel tired and even get headaches sometimes if I look at an LCD screen for more than a few minutes. So I'm still using a 21" CRT Monitor and even with a CRT, I have to run things at 100hz. 60hz on a CRT = headache! My eyes feel fine when working on a 100hz CRT monitor. I don't know why this is.

The only laptop screen that didn't make my eyes tired was the flexview screen on an old T60. I still don't know why this is. I have been using the T60 for a long time without knowing what flexview was. I only came to know about it recently.

Now I'm here to see what's new out there or to see if I should just stick with the CRT. Maybe all the LCD screens I tried were low quality ones. Maybe there are better things out there now. I figured I would ask here and maybe get names of a few models to check it out. Are there good external IPS monitors? I don't need a really big screen, in fact I don't have the space for it..maybe 20 - 22". I just want things to look beautiful, natural and vibrant!! I once read a member here describing a screen as so beautiful that he cried!! I can't find that post though.

I'm not sure if I would like RGBLED monitors. I saw some videos of RGBLED screens, albeit through my CRT.. the reds looked so RED, like burning your eyes kinda red!

It would be great if you guys can share your experience with good quality external displays. I don't really have a budget as I have no idea of this market. If there is something out there worth getting, I would.

    Thank you

RGBLED screens have insane color saturation. Given that you said that the reds looked like burning your eyes kind of red, I would suggest you not get one.

Have you considered just going to a Best Buy or whatnot and checking out the machines there? They have a lot of samples from many manufacturers. It's hard to suggest good monitors because I don't have any issues with LCDs. Even at 60Hz, their refresh is different than a CRT refresh, so you don't get flickering, so I'm reasonably certain that the LCD refresh rate isn't your issue, so don't worry about the 120Hz monitors or anything like that. IPS is a better color monitor, and made for high-end photo work, and you will see pricing along the same lines.

^^ ditto to what is said above, I get a headache using a 60Hz CRT (so I set it to 75Hz) but am fine on a 60Hz LCD.

That's because the LCD screen is constantly same, it does not flicker at all. Those 60Hz, 75Hz, 120Hz do not refer to traditional refresh rate but to the maximum rate pixels in the screen can be changed. Very hard to explain, especially in english for me ;)

The headache might come from the backlight usually being a CCFL type and they have flicker of their own, not related to refresh rates. You can see the same flicker in normal lights if you look at them in the corner of your eye.

Newer led backlight type LCD's could be better. You just have to test it somewhere.

You need to have your eyee checked by a qualified professional first OP. Once he give you his diagnosis, you can better get an idea of the screen (or screen cover) that can better help you cope with the fatigue.

In fact, if may not be the screen, so much as the time you spend on it?

Thanks for the reply guys! Whenever I'm at Costco or Best Buy, I would walk around the TV & monitor sections and stare at things! The ones that don't seem to affect my eyes are these giant 50"+ TV's!

I did have my standard eye exam just over a month ago. They are fine. I'm not sure if you are talking about some sort of specialized checkup. I do spend a lot of time in front of screens!

It's kinda good to know someone else has this problem, not that it's a good thing to have..I have never heard of this 'screen treatment' before. I would definitely look into it. If I try it out, I will let you know how it goes.

I'm not sure how it would be to wear lens's all the time. I will look into that too, why not!

    Thank you
