So, I just bought a new 500 gb Seagate Slim Drive 3.0 from Amazon, but it stopped working after a day of use. Since I just got this new external drive, I wanted to back up my laptop. Instead of using the included program (the Seagate Dashboard), I just copied and pasted my documents, pictures, movies, etc. onto the drive. Everything went fine until about 75gb were transferred. Then, I started getting I/O errors (I didn't write down the error code), and the drive stopped transferring. I cannot transfer any more files onto the drive from the computer or from the drive onto the computer. I can, however, play movies directly from the drive.
Did I break this drive after only a day of use? What should I do? SeaTools says that the device passed the scans. Thank you for your help in advance.

Hng. I'd be wary of trusting it with any information until you get the issues sorted out. Have you kept a copy of everything on your laptop? Remember, if you copy it to an external drive then delete the info, it's not a backup - it's just your data.
You didn't break anything (unless something happened we don't know about, like you dropping it hard), though it's possible you just got a dud. Do you know how/if it's properly formatted? I assume it came pre-formatted, but I dunno.
