I am in need of a stylish yet sufficient/comfortable 15.4in backpack that has some extra space and is no more than $80. I am also looking for a mouse no more than like $50 that works well for gaming.

I love my North Face Heckler. Fits my G1S perfectly, for a size reference.

I prefer Razer mice, so either a Diamondback or a Copperhead (if you can find one within budget) would be my first suggestion. Lately, however, I've been finding myself using my mx518 a lot, even though I miss the third and fourth side buttons.

Either brand is a winner, though.

NatTheGreat...I have the same Dakine backpack that Copulat3 is talking about...i have the all black one...

It's pretty cool...there's plenty of space left with I have my laptop in there (laptop in sig) and there's enough room for my 5-subject notebook, one book (but i'll most likely carry my books), room for pens and whatnot and iPod, and there's a little front pocket cooler that can fit up to 4 cans of redbull...it feels pretty well built...the only thing you might not like (i'm not sure if you would be concerned) is that the laptop sleeve doesnt have a strap to secure it...I dont mind it at all because it's not like i'll be turning my backpack upside down or do anything to bring the laptop out of place....

Will you be using the backpack for school or for laptop transportation?

    Cool cool...

If you're still searching for a backpack, then the Dakine Campus backpack should be fine. The only things you need to take into consideration is space for other things other than your laptop, the laptop strap, and the thickness of the laptop sleeve. If you're good with all those, you're good to go...

Well, I want some extra room for notebooks/books with the laptop in there as well. Does the Dakine Campus work well with extra stuff in it like that?

I guess it depends on how much notebooks/books you are planning to stuff in there. Right now, I have my laptop, a 1.5" Binder, a Five-Star 5 subject notebook, and a composition notebook, as well as my charger, in the main compartment. Looking at it, there seems to be plenty of room for one thick book or a couple of thin books left. When I get home, I'll try to fit in some of the books I didnt have to bring today and I'll report back.

I'll just mention it now, but there's not a lot of room for pens/pencils/hilighters/calculator/etc in the accessory compartment. Unless you use the built-in insulated cooler as an extra accessory compartment or if you have your own accessory box that you can fit in there, then you wouldnt have to worry about it. Just a lil FYI if you were interested.

Alrighty, I just got home and I tested to see what I can fit into the bag. Here's what I came up with:

    Main Compartment
    -Laptop (see sig)
    -Five-Star 5 subject notebook
    -1.5" binder
    -composition notebook
-human anatomy textbook (dimensions are 1"thick-10.5"wide-12"long...yea it's really that big)
    -human anatomy workbook (1cm thick-8.5"wide-10.75"long)
    -pharmacology text book (1"thick-8.5"wide-10.75"long)

And I still had room for a smaller book.

Thank you very much Arnski. That's some very valuable information there. I see that it has plenty of room for what I'm looking for. Though, my only concerned is the accessory compartment. I probably will have some pencils/pens as well as a calculator.

This one works great for someone at school, i really like brenthaven since it really has saved my laptops in numerous times...

    http://www.provantage.com/brenthaven-core2090~7BRHV007.htm

Just verify your laptop does fit, they have a 15/17 as well but it is 25 more.. a lil on the high side... but worth EVERY penny.

    Hi !

Here is my favorite backpack so far... and the price is great! Then there is this one, that has the ImpactGuard technology, looks also cool. That came out after I bought mine, so i have not seen it live yet... But looks promising.

Then there is this Targus. Looks also great and has wheels. It is heavier (because of the wheels) but the extra rolling is attractive. I seen this one in a store and it is also very well build.

I got mine for $39.99 at the Active Skateboard shop in Orange County, CA (I think that's where it was at), but you may be able to find it for a bit cheaper online.

Arnski, does the Dakine Campus backpack have a good safe compartment for the laptop? Is it well protected. I won't have a sleeve that will go separate with the laptop... At least at the moment I won't.

Mine is made by Swiss Gear, and I believe it's the best laptop backpack I've ever had. It's extremely tough, with a lot of space for everything. After I've put my laptop inside, I can still fit three or four normal sized text books as well as a 5-subject notebook. I bought it off of ebags, but doesn't seem like they still carry it, but I found it on Best Buy's website at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8286446&st=swiss&type=product&id=1171672410579

I'm sure you can use it as a reference and find the same bag at a cheaper price

Well, that's kinda hard to say, only because what may work for me, may not work for you. To me, the laptop sleeve is fine the way it is - the thickness of the pads, the space left over after i put my laptop in there, etc. However, the pads aren't as thick as others that I've seen on other bags. But it works for me.

To be honest, despite how much I love my laptop bookbag, I think that it hurts the laptop due to the pressure exerted by your back. I used to put my laptop in my bag (Not the one I mentioned earlier in this thread) so that the top of the laptop would be facing toward my back (if that make sense). After about a year, a shadow started to develop along the edge of the screen where I knew was the place where my back always pushed against. I had the screen replaced for free because of the protection plan I had, ever since thatI always put the laptop in my book bag so that the screen faced the books and the problem never happened. Still though, I think it damages the laptop

I'm considering the High Sierra Swerve for a backpack, since it looks more like a school backpack than a laptop one. As for a mouse, either the MX518 or the G5.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting the MX518 or the G5 as well. Mainly because they are good gaming mice for a reasonable price. :)

P.S. Anyone have the Burton White Collection backpack and happen to have any personal experience with it?

The daiken campus just came in today and as you can see, the main compartment can fit the dell 1500 i think? it's a 15.4 laptop, 1 inch folder, 2(1 inch text book, .5 inch text

Overall, i'm happy with the design/material but the notebook compartment is on the thin side. on a side note i'm using a shinza zeroshock III to protect my acer 5920 while it's in the backpack.

    copulat3, that's a sick dakine campus backpack!!

I just got the all black one, it's still dope, but i'm liking how your's looks!

but yea, as you can see...you can fit quite a bunch of books (given they arent as thick as copulat3's..lol), notebooks, along with your laptop...

Sounds like $40. Check it out on EBags. I'm still torn between the Dakine and Burton bags. Burton is quite a bit more expensive but I love all the extra compartments and the design.

Yea, I got mine for $39.99 at the Active Skateshop in Orange, CA.

On Ebags, right now, they have a 20% off sale on backpacks, messenger bags and laptop bags. The Dakine would be $32.99 and the Burton backpack is not affected by the discount (says so on the White Collection's page).

I'd have to say that the Burton backpack does look pretty sick with it's compartments and design, but to shell out $90 for a backpack seems a little crazy for me. Look at it this way, if you get the Dakine Campus backpack, you'll save $50 that can go towards something else, like another laptop accessory or to take a chick out or save it.

Just letting everyone know, the VX Revolution by Logitech has a $20 mail in rebate from Circuit City. Also, if you check on the Circuit City website, the original price is $64.99, that means after the mail in rebate, it is $44.99. That's cheaper than what you can get it for on most websites! I went and got mine today from the store, however I had to show them the website for them to honor the $64.99 price.

I just received my Dakine Campus backpack! It looks great. Very spacious; at least for my use. Nice compartments. My only problems is that I wish there was a little more padding for the laptop. Other than that I find it to be a great buy! :D

With little padding, you mean the thickness of the protection or the wrap around (the contact that the notebook has with the bag)
