Okay so I bought a backpack to replace my 5 year old one. I got the Swiss Army Wenger Pegasus Notebook Backpack. It's designed for 17 inch laptops in mind. Note take this review with a grain of salt as I do not currently own a laptop, but in the near future I will be purchasing a 17 incher.

Originally I was looking at the Tumi T-Tech Flow backpack (which was 200 dollars after taxes) and the Mobile Edge Secure Pack (evenly priced with this one). I bought it because the other two were unattractive in some respect or another. Price and aesthetics became prominent roles in deciding. The secure pack was attractive enough, but given the name Mobile Edge was placed so obviously on it's cover it made me fear that maybe someone would think I was hauling around a laptop, and the yellow pipes were rather distracting. In essence I didn't want to stick out.

Onto the review. This bag was a pretty penny at a 100 bucks, but significantly less than the Tumi and on par with the Mobile Edge. Basically this thing is loaded with compartment space, knick knacks, and space. As shown in the images.

Some smaller compartment, maybe cellphone or ipod.

    Pens, erasers, and such compartment

These images aren't the best, and I apologize for it. Anyways I wanted to see how much it could hold comfortably in the book department and as a frame of reference this is my typical bookload throughout days in college. Note this is for only one class, as I have one class everyday. But this generally the amount I have to carry.

    Does it fit?

I guess it does. But somewhat of a tight squeeze. However, if worse comes to worse, some overflow can be put in the laptop compartment.

The laptop and book compartments both have something unique at the bottom. They have this folding edge thing (there is two of them one for each compartment). You fold it down to expand the base of the bag so that it can rest vertically. These flaps are cushioned and so is the space compartment for the laptop, bottom, sides, and majority of top, and the backside is completely covered. There is also buckle type thing that leaves part of the laptop exposed, but secured from slipping out.

The little compartments are more than sufficient for pencils, bombs, guns, knives, and other things you may need for school. However, in general I don't often use these as I am lazy and just pour everything into the book compartment anyways and fish it out later.

The bag has this look of even while being stuffed, it still remains thinish looking, and further the straps and backside when carrying it are very cushy. There are four major spots that comfort the back. Top, right, left, and far bottom. The center is not cushioned, but you don't notice it.

The bag's straps are fine, and they don't hurt or cause any discomfort even while loaded (I put some math books in my laptop compartment to simulate a full load and walked around my block). The straps are cushioned, but significantly less than any other cushioned area. The bag even has a middle strap to shift the center of gravity slighty.

The zippers are a bit guady and so is the basic carrying handle, made of steel cable, plastic see through covering, and vented black rubber strap on top of that. It's comfortable and durable, but a bit gaudy. The zippers dspite bing gaudy as well are built well so I don't imagine in the future I'll be breaking them.

Interestingly there are two handles for the bag. One the steel one, and then this smaller cloth one that feels like it could break under load. But whatever, no real complaint about it. Just a bit odd is all.

The bag also has this rubber theme on parts of it, you may have noticed in the pictures. The bottom is rubber but thinnish so it's fairly cloth like.

The top of the bag has a rubber handle as noted and a rubber like bumper of sorts that's not really noticeable until you you study the pictures. It's placed between the book compartment and the pen and small necessities compartment. The red small compartment for a cellphone or ipod (more like 5 ipods) is built into it. On the very outside of the bag where the small necessities are.

I'm on a 6 foot frame at 165 lbs. So I'm slightly underweight, but oddly enough I'm kinda strong for seemingly thin. Anyways I know I have no ass, but that's aside from everything, the bag felt pretty **** comfortable, and I had no problem keeping my back straight most of the time, then I get lazy and slouch forward.

    Yes that's my cat.

Anyways. I'd give this bag a thumbs up. It's dull, loaded to brim with compartment space, built well, comfortable to wear. Everything is well organized and there is expandability. My only real complaints are that the zippers could be less gaudy and the rubber theme is a bit over done, but in all honesty, it doesn't bother me much. Price wise it's about what I expected.

I've been eyeing this backpack as well. I notice that CircuitCity.com has the unit for $89.00 with a $30.00 rebate, bringing the net to $59.00.

I usually buy stuff like this from amazon.com, but with the rebate it's tempting to go CC.

good review, and lol I have economics in one lesson as well, I got the synergy bakcpack which is the 15.4 version, smaller and more ocmpact but still with alot of space, unfortunately my 15.4 laptop does not fit into the laptop compartment wiht the strap but it fits right next to that so I am not worried, the backpack does have tons of compartments including one to put your mp3 with headphone jacks, I am very pleased with my purchase...

    Hello guys!
I recently bought the Toshiba Satellite X200-15K and I am thinking about buying this backpack. I want to ask you if it will fit in this bag, as it is a bit too thick... It is 5,2cm thick..Can anyone who owns the bag or knows tell me whether it will fit????

I'll have a look tonight. I bought this bag a week or so before my notebook arrived and, in all the excitement, haven't yet tried out the bag!

Will get back to you later.

    Leas,

The backpack fits my laptop quite nicely. Mine is a dell M1710 and measures approximately 39x28x4cm (approx).

The bag will easily welcome the 5cm thickness of your notebook. However, I believe it would struggle with length and width dimensions in excess of 41x31cm.

    Hope that helps.

actually. forget my last post. I pulled the trigger and this backpack works GREAT for my G2S-A1. Guess those reviews saying 17" couldn't fit were little wierdos with Clevo D900s who can't realize how big their notebooks really are. ;)
