Yesterday I went and got the Sennheiser HD 203 headphones because I was going to be needing them soon and so far I really like them, except one problem: When I'm listening to music and there is a system sound or a Skype notification the music will pause and go to the regular speakers and sometimes the notification will too (the "pings").

This is a problem not only because it is highly annoying, but also because I will be using the headphones in a library and cannot be having the music default to my regular speakers.

It appears to be that the headphones don't like receiving sound signals from more than one program? It may be a problem with the system or the headphones, and since I do like these, it'd be a pain to return them and find out it was the system. I am running Windows 7 Professional.

This is unrelated to the headphones and is a problem with the output selection of Windows. It could be a faulty driver install.

Try opening up control panel and open up the "sound" menu and changing the default device to whatever the headphones are output on.

It would help if you posted model/specs of your computer.

It's an m17x R2, and the headphones did not require a driver install. Before and after the Skype sound there are very faint metallic beeps as well.

The headphones are set to default but so are my regular speakers (the speakers cannot be taken off either).

EDIT: Just borrowed my sister's Sony Headphones and they've got the same problem, so it's the computer.

I meant the sound driver reinstall.

The reason why this can't really be a 'headphone' problem is that it is connected analog TRS. The speakers in the headphone are not sending information back to the computer.

I would bet that if you plugged in another pair of headphones like some cheap ones it would have the same problem.

So go get the service tag and get the driver reinstalled from Dell's website?

I'll go do that, anything I should need to know? (I know BIOS is a big deal.)

EDIT: Dang, reinstalled, restarted, and still not working right.

EDIT2: After some closer examining it appears that Windows 7 will not allow me to make the headphones entirely default. My sound options do not show them as making any actual sound unless I do "test". But every time I try to set them to default it does nothing and will not let me change speakers off of it.

EDIT3: Muting the headphones does not affect them, they will only be muted if the speakers are muted...
