Hey guys,
finally after long long await i finally i got them..i cant still believe it..less than a year ago i was ecstatic to get my HD205 and thought it was the end of my journey.
i never thought i would really get to own HD600 which was like a lambhorgini for me in terms of my hobby..always drooling at their pics and reading their reviews.
anyway..finally i got them..the Seller sold them with HD650 cable and put the HD600 stock cable as well in the box.
used for around 3 months but free from any major scratch..the headband is little more stretched..maybe he kept them on books.
About Sound..i still havent heard lot of music to judge them.
but man..i heard some Pink Floyd, some AC/DC and Iron Maiden
I never really liked Metal other than iron maiden... and man for the first time i enjoyed AC/DC truly.
the soundstage is much more natural than HD555...really closest i have heard a can get to a speaker.
Sufficiently burned in to enjoy but the owner told me they dont really much burn in ..is that true?
anyway for now its too early to judge them..let the experience marinate into me..then i ll tell how they sound to me.
Somethings i noticed easily:
Bass: Its not poor like somesay..infact its a very detailed bass..in some songs i could actually hear the bass synthesizer generating the Bass.
Mids: Instruments tone was very neutral, there is a snappy effect in the plucks and not fluid like in HD650.
Treble: Much clear than i assume.. initially i thot they would be very warm..but there was a kind of Brightness in the High range.
the Percussions werent being rolled off like in my HD555 but very well produced and mild touch of brightness.
maybe its because i didnt see it coming.... it never was as bright/fatiguing like i felt in Grado SR80.
The fun is really in the details ...although they still retain the musicality and hence i really could enjoy and analyse the music at the same time.
One more thing... i used some cheezy music like Simple Plan - When I'm Gone...and i could hear flaws in the recording and how also had that Loudness in them.
If u want one headphone forever get these.

Nice upgrade. It looks pretty sweet. Those are definitely open cup, unless its imitation.
Where are they made?
I am thinking of doing something with my HD280's. The inner lining on one of the ear foam things got ripped, so that needs to be fixed soon.

Thanks Cin.. They cost around $300 these days but can be had for $250 with discounts.
i got them for $260 since in singapore they are little expensive brand new.
the seller put new cables on them which cost around $60.
@K-Tron..
HD280 are closed, sweaty, clampy and not very engaging....u can sell them and get HD555 for around $100-120.. very awesome headphone with huge soundstage.
they dont need amp. ..i sold mine 2 days back for HD600. -
....So really not such a bad price!!!
Enjoy them!Who am I kidding..you surely wil!!!!
Cin -
how do they sound compared to the 555's
-
Those look pretty good, you try them without a good amp? Just to see how they perform like that.
-
But as good as the 600 is, my personal favorite right now is the AKG-701, in particular for people that find the 600 sound too smooth. The 701 manages to be more detailed without sounding harsh in any way, IMHO. -
Oh man, that's so awesome. I have a pair of Sennheiser EH-150 headphones. Basic, cheap, but pretty good considering. I get some distortion through which is a little annoying, but still pretty good sound. Problem is they are not circum-aural, and instead press against the edges of my ears, and become irritating to wear for prolonged periods. I've tried stretching them out, and it has helped a little, but still a bit bothersome. They also make my ears sweaty.
-
I could never really gel with the HD600 - it sounded flat, and not in a good way regardless of what type of amplification I threw at it. I prefer the HD650 for a dynamic phone (and would prefer the K701 over that if the ergonomics were better), although for serious listening I break out the HE/HEV90.
-
Well..if u didnt like HD600 u ll never like AKGK701..atleast HD600 have a very musical presentation unlike K701 which is brutally neutral yet detailed but then unengaging.
and HE90 are the other level..it costs like $15,000..i would rather get speakers with that money -
K701... neutral. Hmmm. I guess it depends on how you define 'neutral' especially in comparison with the HD600 - which is if anything more 'neutral'. I also suppose it depends on which web review 'your' opinions come from.
There are times when premium headphones work better than speakers for the mode of listening I do - and for me I don't really need to choose between spending whatever speakers or headphones. It's simply about getting what works for me. The HE/V90 is very transparent for a headphone system and it is about the nearest thing to enjoying a speaker experience in headphones.
The HD600 is slightly lacking in realistic dynamics with all but the most consumer-coloured of sources. If you're starting from a high quality source / soundcard with a pretty honest headphone amp, I find that the HD650 / SR-007 / K701 works better in terms of overall tone. However the K701 has some ergonomic problems for me, the SR-007 is heavy and suffers from 'static farts' when I move my head as well as some ear-relative placement problems similar to the K701. Which is why I've kept returning to the HD650 as a computer-based phone. -
Maybe i should change the topic title to: King of Dynamic headphones
because Electrostatic is a different breed....they have the advantage to be very fast which dynamic cant be.
and man u need to have the $$$ for the HE90 Orpheus...i would love to have those if i had the money today.
As for K701...i tried the AKG..i had some issues:
Bass anemic: the bass response never satisfied me...especially for Trance music.
Hard to drive: The K701 are much much harder to drive than HD600.
due to these reasons K701 can never be on my wishlist.
what headphones are you using these days? u seem to know lot of stuff -
Well - it actually helps to have things before you talk in detail about them. e.g. everything you've said about the K701 so far doesn't make sense. And as I wrote, I have the HE/V90 and the HD650.
-
K701 is always a very debatable topic..some like it and some complain about it..yesterday there was a very heated argument on head-fi.
so lets not talk about them.
OMG..u ve got the HE90...can u upload pics for us mortal guys? -
better than my cheap HD215's then...

Ever had Audiotechnica AD700's? They are open air and have the most perfect sound stage, its been on my "want" list ever since I had an ebay seller send me the AD700's instead of the A700's a long time ago.
I sort of wish I had kept the AD700's even though the A700's are more of what i was looking for at the time. -
-
WoW,very nice!enjoy!
-
Wow they're huge
-
even i had to sell my hd555 last week to raise money for hd600. -
I would LOVE to trade my HD555 for a AD700 set. Too bad no one wants to lol.
-
nah... if u trade HD555 then dont get AD700..they are nearly the same..mild sound signature difference.
try to get hold of HD580 .. they are next best thing to HD600 and much much cheaper. -
I went from the 580's to some Ultrasone Hif-780's and I think the ultrasone's are funner. And if your not having fun while listening to music then why listen to it? Of course thats just my personal opinion.
-
HD580 needs a decent amp, cant afford it lol. I liked the AD700 when I tried it out so might as well get it.

Low impedance on the AD700's they run great with no amp so thats a nice plus. I will definitely get a pair at some point, just other things come up that I want more at the time.
Im eying a $1000 Nikon D90 right now for instance lol.
