My wife gave me a Logitech V270 BlueTooth mouse for Christmas and I thought I would love it but I found that it tracks WAY too fast for me when my mouse pointer speed setting is confortable for touchpad use, and there is no way to set a separate speed setting for the mouse without also messing up the touchpad speed.

When I run without the Logitech SetPoint software, the Control Panel/Mouse speed setting affects both devices, and no "middle ground" compromise setting works for me.

When I install and use the SetPoint software, it appears to offer a distinct speed setting from the Control Panel/Mouse setting, but every time I reboot it resets the Control Panel/Mouse setting to the middle value, which is too slow for my touchpad (takes several finger swipes to traverse the screen).

I contacted Logitech technical support and they were useless, they just tell you to try uninstalling and reinstalling their software and the touchpad drivers, which doesn't work. I am returning the V270 mouse.

Does anyone know if this problem prevails with ALL brands of mice on laptops with a touchpad, or is there another product that will allow me to truly set separate pointer speed preferences for the mouse and touchpad independent of one another?

    Thanks,
    Garrett

With my Macbook, my speeds are almost identical between my trackpad and my mouse, and both seem to be at right speeds for me. I have had two different mice with my laptop, and both worked at the right speed, so I'm not sure about yours.

i have a logitech v230 optical wireless mouse and it tracks great. I installed SetPoint, and for me, it provides a distinction between touchpad and external mouse. it saves the settings so i have never had to change them when rebooting. there might be some problem with your mouse? i can't think of a reason why the mouse wouldn't perform.

I'm having the same problem with the Logitech V470 bluetooth mouse. I don't know of a solution. I haven't tried ditching the SetPoint software yet. I can fix the touchpad speed in the control panel, and get them both right, but I have to do this every time I reboot, which is lame.

There's a Kensington bluetooth mouse I've been thinking about... I don't know if it's any better in this respect or not... but I think I might like its flatter shape a bit better than the V470. Microsoft has a bluetooth mouse too... but somehow the MS mice don't appeal to me as much in terms of look and feel.

I also have the same experience with the V270 mouse and my hp laptop touchpad. I found this software MouseSwitcher that solves this exact problem.

    http://www.mouseswitcher.com

It lets you set 2 different mouse speeds. So you can slow down the bluetooth mouse but still keep your touchpad at the fast speed you want. Or whatever speeds you want. It works with any mouse and on any windows laptop, really easy to use.
