Hello my friends. I bought a cooling pad to day at Target. It's a plastic Targus and it was on sale for little more than $15. It doesn't seem to be working as well as I thought it would. The base of my notebook only feels a little cooler than normally it does without it. Is this thing a peice of junk I should take back?

i had a ****py plastic one in the past...doesn't work. you should really consider getting something made of aluminum b/c that disperses extra heat in addition to the fans.

Niki do you use NHC or another program to see how hot your laptop runs? I use a cheap cooler that I got from new egg and it has worked fine. See if the cooler drops the temp at all.

Send it back. Targus has a USB plug in cooler. I never tried it but conceptually more advanced that a plastic board.

I have a cheap plastic Targus with two fans and it works well. Make sure the fans are spinning when you plug into the usb port.

I have a small plastic cooler called Justcooler. It has two fans that work great. It is completely silent. I used to have aluminium thermaltake or something - very expensive and fancy looking. Well all I can say is that this cheap plastic cooler is a God of cooling for that aluminium piece of .... well. I play games with overclocking and undervolting set and on 100% load it keeps the temp around 65. Without it it goes up to 72. On default speeds and voltages it easily reaches 85. Aluminum pad did a miserable 3 degrees difference.

    Cheers,

you should consider tracking your temperature with something like speedfan and seeing the difference. as evidenced by people's comments, some people have good and bad experiences with plastic coolers.....
