I've been looking at reviews of these three mice to find a wireless solution to replace my old logitech g5. I initially went for the g7, as it is almost identical to the g5 that I'm used to, but both the sidewinder and orochi are in the same price range, and I can't find which of these is best.

Has anyone had experience with any of these that would help me make my decision one way or another?

I saw that article when I searched earlier, so I think as far as that goes the Orochi looks better than the sidewinder since I like the idea of it having bluetooth connectivity...but I love my g5 and don't know if I want to stray too far away from that design, but it's an older mouse so I don't know if it's obsolete performance-wise when compared to the orochi.

    Anyone own both a g5 and a g7?

well personally speaking, I went from an MX310 to a G5 and loved every second of it and will probably continue using my G5 until it does, same with my wife.

I would go for the Orochi. It's compact, but every millimeter of space on that mouse is used perfectly. It fits my gorilla hands quite nicely, and I can comfortably use all 7 buttons. Also, I prefer Bluetooth over USB wireless, and the optional high-performance wired mode is excellent.

Wait, you'll use your wife until she dies or your wife will also use te G5 until it dies?

Kidding, I know what you meant. Still funny.

Long while back I moved from the G7 to the G5. Even with no weights in it, the G7 was heavy enough that it felt weird to me.

But, got out of gaming for a while and gave the G5 to a buddy, then stuck with my old MX-518 when I picked it back up. Finally bought a G9 yesterday... love it. It's the first time in years I've moved away from the MX-518/G5/G7/etc. design style.

But to your issue, I would argue that the difference in performance is going to be minimal, so pick the design that is most comfortable to you. If you like the ergonomics of the G5, then move to the G7. Just try them all out to see which feels best/most natural. Don't worry about small DPI differences or anything like that...

I had a G5 that recently broke (right button stopped working) so I wanted to get something wireless that'd be easier to travel with. I was in best buy getting some christmas presents last week and on a whim I bought a logitech Performance MX for myself. I probably paid too much for it, but it's pretty awesome. I like the shape and weight of the mouse, the buttons are nicely placed, and it literally works on any surface other than a mirror with no jumping or anything like that. For gaming, there are probably better mice, but I've had no problems with it playing BF2 and CSS.
