Silently cool MBP's while sitting on a Griffin?

I've really had enough of this. My Macbook Pros are now sat, open, on the Griffin stands instead of the $300 Balmudas I bought because they become unstable due to overheating in lid-closed mode (while the fans are screaming away to boot) in the current ambients under a reasonable load.

The problem is, that even when sat on the Griffins they need additional cooling assistance. Since the body itself actually conducts comparatively little heat to the outside, whatever the Applezombies say about the heat conductivity of aluminium (if Apple actually allowed the case to conduct heat to any meaningful degree for radiating away the ludicrously high temps the innards of the MBP run at, they would be facing lawsuits for burnination), what I have to do is to allow a fan to waft cool air over the keyboard from the side. This allows the intake to do it's job and the system runs a little cooler.

So at the moment it's either the MBP screaming at 6000rpm, or the 'brrrrrrrrrattlerattlerattle' of a desktop fan. Neither of which I'm fond of.

I was wondering if e.g. the Dyson AM01 would be any better in the same role, if there is actually such a thing as a silent desk fan, or if anyone else had any bright ideas.

let me know if u do decide to go with the dyson air multipliers. i'm really considering purchasing the bigger model, but i haven't had any experiences with them so i'm not sure if they're even worth the money.

I can say from personal experience that the AM01 is NOT quiet. But it does put out a reasonable amount of air for the size. IDK why, but the only thing I could find for my uMBP was *this*. It seems to do the job and it was cheap, so if it breaks I won't be out but 18 bucks. I keeps my MBP at about mid-60's to low-70's under full load with the lid closed. Not too bad. Mind you though, I have the older uMBP, with C2D and 9600mGT, so IDK how this would handle with anything newer or higher spec'd.

Where do you live? Iceland? :p Mine's 68 at IDLE with the lid open in the current ambient - which is, to be fair, damned hot but not a temp in which a 'Pro' machine would not be expected to function - but the M6500 is registering 75C at heavy load.

I guess I could try the PORT Ergostations with the similar style of fan arrangement in that case to see if things improve.

LOL. My house usually stays at a constant 62F, and on unusually hot days, I crank it down to 59F. But but if I take it off that stand, it roasts... I'm talkin 90c. That little stand pulls a good bit of air over the bottom, and it seems to do the job pretty darn well. I can even game with the 9600mGT enabled, and still not go over 75c.

Having barely tolerated each and every new-gen hardware since 2006, believe me - there's nothing I would like to do more. However I work in OS X for some stuff, and hackintoshi are (still) even more of a hassle.

This year is the first year ever that I haven't upgraded any of my Macs, because on the notebook side the (lack of) cooling hasn't changed and neither has the TDP's, and there also isn't another major system change I perceive as beneficial. I'm pretty much resigned at this point in time to dealing with what are effectively glorified home computers, be it 'Pro' desktop or laptop, from Apple.

I'll try a fan stand - perhaps try both the Belkin and a PORT. Part of what I want is something to raise the machine so the Belkin alone is not great.
