Hey, I've been reading up on this because I want to use a controller with some of my games. I want to use a controller that I already own without having to buy additional dongles (grr 360). I have read a few threads on this, namely this one, but still can't get it to work. Windows detects it when it connects, and lists it as PLAYSTATION(R)3 controller, but it doesn't respond when I try to test it or use it in-game
. Is this because of my 64-bit?

Do you have it set to a mapping program? How will your computer know how to respond if you hit buttons but there are no functions for the buttons? Google joy2key.
-
I have it, it either didn't work or I configured it wrong, and I'm betting that I did it wrong. What am I supposed to put for buttons 1,2,3,etc.? And how do you configure the sticks?

It could be your bluetooth drivers or hardware.
Also I do belive Pinnacle Game Profiler can automate the entire process for using the controller on PC. -
I'm not using bluetooth...I decided to go with wired first because I think its easier, and I'm not going to be very far from my screen anyway. The BT way gave me BSOD three times last week

Well get the Xbox 360 controller and be happy, or if you want to be more unique follow my guide to use the wiimote.
The Xbox 360 is plug & play -
Do you have the driver installed?
google "ps3 sixaxis driver" and download it, then everytime you plug it in; start the program and away you go. It automatically configures -
It's because of the 64-bit. I've tried everything and have had no success.
-
I don't think there are any proper x64 drivers.

From the thread I linked to earlier:

Interesting that this thread came up.
I am actually using an old Sidewinder Freestyle Pro, which was thought to be the idea of the Six-axis PS3 controller's motion controlled design.
It's a fully functional 4-axis motion controller. I had it for a while now.
I only started using it again while beta testing Battlefield Heroes.
- I wanted the developers to help implement such controllers to make the game even funner.
It quite fun using it to dog fight in airplanes.
I was going to post the video, but NDA from BFH prevented me from doing so until the game is publicly released.
I think this controller is quite inexpensive and works quite well... until great drivers come out for the motion controllers of today's consoles (PS3 and Wii) comes out. -
Whoa the sidewinder looks uber old school
.
I tested my controller with XP and it works fine, I'll test it with vista x86 when I can get a chance but it looks like a no-go on x64.

Its the best layout for fighting games.
- nice D-pad and 6 button + 2 trigger layout.
Feels great, looks like a Bat-a-rang (Batman).... wish Microsoft would have used this design for the X-Box's. -

I've listed what each button on the controller equates to for you so you can set it up correctly.

I'm personally using the pinnacle game profiler as it sets up everything for you, the downside is it costs $19.98
Im have to launch ps3sixaxis_en.exe every time i start up to get it to work, so i suggest you drop it in your startup folder.
Hope this helps.
If you need any further help dont hesitate to ask. -
What's joy2play? Haven't heard of it.
I'll download the trial of pinniacle game profiler and buy it if it works. -
