So I'm looking to get a better setup for my gaming and skype needs. Currently, I've been using my Wii Headbanger headset as a temporary substitue for anything. It works okay, but I'd like to get something made for PC gaming/VoIP. The issue lies in my laptop having a TRRS headphone/mic combo port(I'm using a ThinkPad W530).

So, ideally, I'd want a USB headset, or a TRRS headset. I looked into just getting a clip-on mic like the Zalman ZM-1 but that would need me to buy an adapter, and I'm not sure if I would be better off with a set of headphones and a clip-on mic or just get a headset.

The headsets I've been looking at are the:
    Creative Tactic3D Alpha
    Plantronics GameCom 380
    Turtle Beach EarForce X12
Briefly looked at the FreeTalk Everyman

I've just been reading forum topics similar to mine, and while I have found many that can be found on Amazon for cheap, I live in Canada, where Amazon.ca does not reflect those same cheap prices. The Alpha( $38 US, $50 CAN) and the GameCom 380( $38 US, $77 CAN) are prime examples. I just don't know what's good, what's cheap, what works, and where to buy it.

If anyone has any input whatsoever, I would be more than happy to hear it. Thank you.

The USB isn't so much a requirement as a preference. I can get an adapter/splitter for the combo port, but USB would be simpler. And the Gamecom 777 looks good. I might just have to try it. Are the 777's better than the 780's? Any others anybody can think of/recommend?

The Plantronics GameCom 780 is great, I own a pair. They sound the same as my friends expensive headphones.

My only gripe is the cord. I'm probably going to be purchasing the G930 because I hate the cord.

Why do you hate the cord, if I may ask? Is it falling apart?

No, no, nothing like that. I hate it because it gets in the way. The cord itself is built very well. It's more of an issue about it getting caught on stuff, like my chair. :p

I see. Well, I'm leaning towards the GameCom 780 but I'm trying to find it cheaper/on sale from a store in canada. Anybody have any ideas?
