Okay, so I purchased one of these bags a month ago to go along with my MBP.
I heard a few good things about them, but otherwise not many people have tried them. It was $60 and looked like the right size and right number of pockets for what I wanted in a new bag.
Anyway, it was a decent bag... up till a few days ago. The threading connecting the shoulder straps to the rest of the bag (at the shoulder area) is um... coming undone.
I also noticed that there is a problem with the inside padding in the notebook section. Now, originally it felt like the notebook section kept it about an inch above the bottom of the backpack. Unfortunantly, for slim notebooks, there is a small section that doesn't have padding (about 3/4" thick or so) so in effect, think notebooks aren't really padded. Yowza...
On top of that, the rest of the backpack is decent. I really like the front pocket area as it completely unzips and there are a decent amount of pockets for stuff. The inner liner is a very soft, almost felt like material. Problem is pencils... Try sticking a pencil in the little pencil holder or a pocket, and it gets caught in the fabric. No matter what you do (it's kind of fluffy).
Anyway, wanted to let you guys know it's a nice pack, but needs some overhauling before I would trust an expensive notebook inside it.
I'll be trying to return mine for a refund (hopefully).

Oh, by the way, it took a while to get to my place. Something close to 2 weeks I think. I don't even think I got a shipping number, it just... arrived at my door one day.

hollownail,
About two months ago I bought a Slappa Velocity Pro Backpack, the model just below your Sypder. The exact same thing happened to the threading on the shoulder strap on mine. Also, the threading where the shoulder strap connects to the lower part of the bag also came undone. Needless to say, I was really angry.
I contacted Slappa and sent the bag back to them. They wrote me an email and said that they did not have any more bags and could not replace the one I ordered; however, they gave me a few choices that just further aggravated me. They offered to put me on a waiting list for a new bag that was coming out in a few months or I could choose something "more expensive" and "just send in the rest of the money." Yea right! I told them I want my money back. They returned the money without any hassle, but I will never buy their products again.
They claim to have high-quality products for you digital equipment, but it seems that is not true.
Sorry to hear about your bag too.

Guys, I am the President of SLAPPA and just learned about this site via a google search. We "made our mark" as a company with our HardBody CD cases and last year made our entrance into laptop bags/cases. For this laptop line we focused on incorporating the same standards of high-quality materials and unique design as has made us successful with our CD cases. When we first launched the laptop line there were 2 design flaws built into our Velocity laptop backpacks that we learned about: (1) was the stitching of the shoulder straps and (2) was the type of padding we used for the dedicated laptop sleeve. When we learned of these 2 issues we immediately stopped selling the original version of the Velocity laptop backpack and worked to fix these problems. The reason for this post is to tell any SLAPPA customers who have the original version of the Velocity backpack that we will replace it with the new version at no cost. We are a small company who is working hard to build a business....and we try to make each and every customer happy.....not a realistic goal, but one that I have set for us as a company. Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you need help with an original version Velocity bag.
Thanks

I want to thank you for telling us about the problems you had with the original SPYDER backpacks. Info like this is invaluable to us because we really do strive to make our products the absolute best on the market, and in order to do so we need to hear the experience(s) that you have.
Since this post went up, we went back to the drawing board and redesigned the SPYDER backpack and relaunched it in November of '07. We addressed the strap stitching (we have changed the material of the bag and added a nylon reinforcement to the stitch area) and added more padding to the internal backpack sleeve, and have not heard of any issues with these new bags.
At the same time we were reworking the SPYDER backpack we were building a new line of bags and sleeves, and used your commentary and feedback (both in the forum and from e-mails you sent us) to develop this new line of Ballistix products.
I appreciate greatly the opinions, advice and feedback of those who took the time to contact us, and as a way to say "thank you" we are going to offer 2 things for all notebookreview.com folks (1) we have set up for you a 15% discount code that can be used on all our laptop cases, bags and sleeves. If you want to purchase ANY of the SLAPPA computer bags/cases from our site just type in the code "notebookreview" as one of the final checkout steps and you will get 15% off the total of the product costs. (2) For the first 5 people who purchase any laptop product at the slappa.com website, we will give you a Ballistix laptop sleeve FREE (we will advise you via e-mail that you are one of the first 5, and we will then ask you if you want a 15.4" or a 17" sleeve).
When we first built our SLAPPA CD cases 4.5 years ago, we worked very closely with one hi-end audio forum, and the people on that site helped us build what is now one of the best CD storage solutions available. We hope to foster the same kind of relationship with you guys for our laptop products.
Again, thank you very much for the help and please feel free to send me a mail with any comments or feedback...we are always listening
Thanks
Dominick

Impressive follow up i must say. More companies should take an example of showing they actually listen to customers and act on issues instead of ignoring us. I don't know if your last post comes too close to advertising to be allowed on this forum but you get kudos from me!

Dready, it's certainly not meant to be an ad, but if the moderators deemed it to be or requested that I make particular edits, I would certainly understand.
It's getting harder and harder to survive as a small company, and I truly believe that for small guys like us to grow without sacrificing quality or values, is to deal directly with the customer and listen to what they share as far as their overall experience. When customers are willing to take time out of their day to give you their thoughts, you would have to be insane (or just not care) if you don't listen.
Anyway, I'd rather fail while trying to make people happy VS. win and have everyone around me miserable.
Thanks

I applaud your efforts!!! I don't need a bag at the moment but purely on your responses here i would choose to give you guys the chance to prove yourselves by buying from you. Small struggling companies need all the help they can get in these dark days of multinationals taking over everything.

Wow, wish every company was like that.
I will throw print out of this Page on Creative's face,
They have design flaw in their headphones HQ-1400 & they dont accept it. -
Hadn't seen this thread before. A company that cares about it's customers sounds great to me! Definitely going to order a cd case, possibly a sleeve as well if it they will fit an m1730.

I really like the looks of your stuff, although i wish i saw more stuff for the small guys (i have a 13.3 and my wife has a 14.1).
