So I just bought myself a shiny new Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 and now need a sleeve for the computer. The computer itself fits quite well in my backpack (which isn't even designed for computers), but I don't want the lid getting dents or scratches on it. Any suggestions? I'm not looking for something overwhelmingly fancy or anything, just something functional.

NukePak Black Neoprene/Cotton 17"/17.3" Laptop Notebook. Read my review on Amazon. Its a great no frills product. After a year of use, my laptop is as pristine as the day I bought it.

I think I might have to get one of those. The price certainly is right.

I've used a zip-up sleeve that's actually designed for a 15.6" laptop with my 17" MacBook Pro since I got it in late November 2011. No scratches caused by the zipper yet.

incase 17" sleeves are pretty popular, though they are mad for macs - not sure if you;re toshiba is too thick.

The chances of any made-for-Mac 17-incher sleeve fitting a Windows 17-incher is literally slim (ahaha) unless it's very stretchy - and you don't want something too taut anyway.
Zippers - well covered ones isn't usually a problem, unlike this somewhat useless one. Ironically some badly engineered flappy sleeves can also mark laptops with the sharp edges of velcro strips.
The Belkin also looks good. Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Belkin Neoprene Notebook Sleeve for 17-Inch Laptop (F8N049-DK)
Among the worst-rating comments, "NOT MADE FOR A MACBOOK!" is, I think, a recommendation in this case. -
I have 2 Slappa sleeves. Very nice quality and padded. The zippers haven't caused me a problem.

^ 100% agree. IMO there is nothing better than the Slappas

I'm afraid Slappa is on my do not buy list. I purchased the backpack, the notebook briefcase, and a headphone case a while back and the first two of the three failed. In fact, the strap on the briefcase broke a day after I had previously been carrying my laptop around in it. The fake metal hooks snapped like tooth picks.
Thank goodness I was fortunate enough that it broke before I put my laptop in it the next day. I shudder to think of the catastrophe that would have occurred had it held together just long enough for me to put my newly purchased (at the time) laptop in it and started on my way.
I sent a strong letter to the company telling then what had happened and they sent me another strap made out of the same cheap metal.
Beware of these cheap Chinese made products that appear genuine on the outside but are in fact, inferior made products under the paint.
By the way, the strap on the headphone case broke too (yes, I lost my $100 headphone) a the train station.
The backpack started to tear at the strap seams so before anything else got lost or damaged, I retired it to my closet where they all serve as simple case for misc household objects. -
^ that is bad. I have read very positive reviews all over . So far so good with mine.

I'd go with a Slappa sleeve - I have one for my Asus G73 and it's great - 2 years in and it still looks brand new. Good luck
