I have very, very limited desk space, so I'm looking for a compact keyboard that's comfortable and quiet.
For reference, the extremely basic keyboards that come with prebuilt business-class desktop PCs (the ones you see everywhere in offices) are already too big, and the typical multimedia keyboards that come with prebuilt consumer-grade desktops won't even fit on my desk. The Apple keyboard is the perfect size, but it lacks Windows keys and a numpad.

Standard recommendation for as small as possible is something like the Happy Hacking keyboard, but that doesn't have a numpad.
Looks like it'll be trawling through manufacturers websites looking at dimensions...! -
Are you looking for "small" as in small footprint, or "small" as in very thin?
If you want a high quality "small" as in small footprint... the Deck Keyboards 82-key. Why? Because it's a Deck.
It's going to be pricer than the $5 throw-away cheap membrane-based keyboards you can find from your generic Best Buy / Office Depot / Staples stores. But it's small, and it's mechanical. Keyboard nerds consistently rate Deck Keyboards as the best-of-the-best among keyboards that you can buy, because of their build quality and keystroke motion.
Plus, it's solid. The foundation is a corrugated steel plate, making the keyboard weigh a solid ~3lb. If anyone were to break into your home, you could smack them over the head with your Deck, and the keyboard would be fine.

He said he wanted a numpad though...
(never used a Deck but have heard good things about them, including you in that other thread. Former Model M user transitioned to a Das for Windows key reasons here. And also always use the bludgeoning someone to death analogy!) -
Ah, missed that part about the number pads.

Its pretty much a regular keyboard with the middle bit where the arrow keys are gone and numpad there with the other keys place elsewhere. Forgot to mention is uses Cherry black keys which mean silence and pretty darn nice switches.
The Deck keyboard doenst have those number keys.
Should be released very soon. -
Look at the Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 (warning it is Bluetooth and doesn't include a Bluetooth Adapter), it has a seperate Numpad that you can place where you want...I use it at home and it is the same keyboard that Asus is including with the EP121 Slate...

Cherry makes a nice variety of keyboards that are small, but also very expensive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823333062
