Well, my TV now is getting really old (it was a hand-me-down) and I've been really wanting a new TV. I'm only in high school so I don't have much funding. I was looking somewhere at the 32" LCD HDTV, but can't decide whats best. I was also looking in the price range of <$600. I won't be buying this until sometime after Christmas after I get all that awesome Christmas Card money.
What do you guys think? I would like it to be possible to use it for a PC Monitor also. I don't have much experience with new TVs so I would love your input.

I got a 37" Westinghouse for 650 that I'm extremely happy with. This model: http://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-...7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1193022580&sr=8-1
it went back up in price, a month ago tigerdirect had it for 650.
I guess what I'm saying is if you can wait for good deals you can definitively find something good in your price range, but you might have to forgo the name brands. -
Get a Sony Bravia....my family and I bought it after about 3 months of research, reviews, in-store comparisons, and we are really happy with it. Vivid colors, good controls, good connectivity ports, etc. Only thing is on soft tv channels you have to turn it up alot and sometimes that's not good enough if you want a full blasting sound (i guess that's the station's fault...)...
but overall I am very impressed. We've had it almost 2 years now...nothing's broken or anything, very sturdy...etc.. -
The Bravia seems to be a bit expensive. I guess I will just keep a lookout when it comes to be a couple weeks after Christmas. Are there any brands to try to stray away from?

For the $600 cheapie range, the Viewsonics are a pretty strong. They've got overall good quality and color, and aren't too bad. I have an Viewsonic 32" LCD TV that I paid $900 for at the time (but is now about $550 to $600). I bought it for my Xbox 360 and my gaming PC, and it served really, really well. Good colors, no ghosting, it was a perfect cheap gamer's HD TV all the way around.
EXAMPLE: (You can find it cheaper if you shop around)

It's not as elegant as some of the nicer, more expensive ones (my main quirk is the TV's interface - it's slow and not all pretty, but it's highly functional. It does everything it needs to do and does it fairly well.
And surprisingly, the built in speakers were rather good! -
Vizio. Great TV's, low price. Check em out. I'm very happy with my 32" (I also have a Samsung 42", and I wish I'd have bought the Vizio 42" instead).

My roommate just bought a 37" Visio for under $600. I'll be buying one by the end of the year, as well. Its a great TV!

Where did he find a 37" for under $600?
. I've heard good things about Visio it just seems to be just out of my price range most of the time.

From what I've heard about Vizio is they are good after you get them calibrated. Their blacks aren't as dark as some of the more expensive brands though. Some say Vizio have "truer" colors compared to more expensive brands since the big brands tend to use techniques to make colors stand out more.
But the argument can also be made for the big brands. They tend not to look bad when not fully calibrated since they are pretty good all around. I've also heard that some Vizios have been known to have some light bleed.
Most of this is what I've listed is from hearing opinions on this forum. They tend to be pretty observant on this kinda stuff. -

Take a look at that one. A friend of mine has it and it looks great.
The vizio he is talking about is there for 580. -

He got it at a very small, but still reputable store. It was refurbished, but works like a champ and looks brand new. The only thing I dont like about it are the internal speakers - they're fine for TV watching but we hooked up my stereo for any movies.

The Olevia looks big and ugly. I am not sure how good HDTV would look on that thing.

If your in U.S, you can wait till this Thanksgiving when they have all the sales. You can walk out of circuit city or something like that with a 2k t.v for around 700, but more then likely you'll have to wait outside the store the day before, those sales turn people into monsters, but damn it's fun once it starts.

I love it and would recommend it any day. hdtv looks amazing, i get free hd channels through my cable because of the qam tuner, and my 360 is great on it too! i have it hooked up with a sony 5.1 system and a dvr in my bedroom. I couldn't be happier.
