My limit is about 30 bucks. I listen to alot of Metal, so i need some great bass. I also listen to other music, and use them for my laptop (video games) but bass is important. What are some good all around headphones?

Skullcandy didn't have much bass for me. I hear sony, but Idk. Noise canceling would be great, but i doubt i'll get that for 30 bucks AND with good bass.

i don't want to look like a fool either with GIANT headphones

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, i wasn't sure exactly where to put it

if you really want to have bass on the cheap, you need to go with headphones not earphones

I'd suggest that once you have a model you search Head-fi for comparisons.

I had Sony EX85 (possibly above your limit though) that were nice.

Sennheiser CX3000 (or was is CX200) are often recommend as decent cheap in-ears.

You will not get noise cancelling - Sony does it - with a box, or built into their MP3player - but the box eat 2AA batteries - and would else be a nusisance. (if still around)

I am now on Sennheiser IE8 - they beat my EX85 by a mile.

Obviously the Sennheiser IE8 are way, way too expensive.

But sometimes a small step up in price may be worth it.

    Another tip:
Compare prices, I got my IE8 from Amazon.de (live in Europe) - directly off Amazon though not a merchant.
This could lead to some additional savings too.

Your not going to get much of a headphone in the 30$ price range. The best I can suggest would be the Sennheiser PX100's but they are open so you can hear noises around you and people close by might be able to hear your music.

CX300's are ok, but the bass is bloated and over powering, which might be something you like if you say other headphones haven't had enough bass. But be cautious as fake CX300's are more common than real ones.

the only headphone with good bass at this price point is px100, with the rest you'll just get muddy thumps.

I have and recommend Shure SE530 (good everything), Shure E3C (decidely neutral/natural), or Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro (great bass).

Oh...hang on...just saw the OP's $30 limitation. Never mind then. I cannot comprehend such a low price range for audio listening.

    You have forgotten Sennheiser IE8.

Well, on topic - not everybody has that much money - or someone to fund him (her for the ladies).

And IE8s cost a bit more in the US than Europe!

For $30 I think it'd be difficult to better the Sennheiser CX series; the CX300 II ECOs are very good and cheap. BTW they are IEM/plugs which go in the ear instead of the phones that come with players that just sit in the lobe. Some people don't like IEMs.

I use these and they have the best sound of any pair I have used, including plenty of koss, sony and Phillips(I got them at the MCX for 20$ and no tax though)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826432002&cm_re=iluv-_-26-432-002-_-Product
The name may sound funny, but the quality is very apparent, they also include additional rubber grommets for them to fit better in your ear,and the plug is gold plated, the sound control is a nice digital setup that has hard top limits and bottoms.

Ask yourself this: would you like to listen to bass not actually present in the tracks, but rather introduced artificially through cheap psychoacoustics? Or would you rather listen to tracks as they were recorded, and try to attain high accuracy in musical reproduction?

If you'd still like enhanced but distorted bass on the cheap, look no further than the Sennheiser CX-300 and be happy with your music. If you'd instead like to step onto the road of hi-fidelity audio, start with the Meelectronics MI-A6 @ $37 or the MI-A9 @ at $18 on overstock.com. It's your choice, a different type of happiness lies in each.

I had the CX-300 until they broke and I was happy with them. They were bass heavy, it mudded the sound a little, but you won't hear much of the difference. I listen to any kind of music, heavy rock being one of them, and they work good.

i'm not really liking what i'm hearing about the CS- Series headphones. I don't like too much bass to the point of distortion. I like it to about the point where its a balance between good bass and good treble. Maybe i'll just get those skullcandy...

Nice choice! I have a set that I use when I walk around with and they're not bad, I'm a big fan of bass heavy phones (Turbines, X10s, maybe some IE8s soon) and they're quite nice for bass but as others noticed, they're a bit muddy but what can you expect for $20?

    Anyway, enjoy your purchase :)

    High end Sennheisers.

    /Thread.

Although high end is a little bit expensive, so maybe only mid range, but definitely get Sennheisers, they really are the best.

Unfortunately, that's as informative as saying that Dells (or HP, or Sony, pick one) make all the best computers. We should all know how dangerous such a statement would be.

Go to Head-fi and do your research. The experts at their forum have owned dozens of headphones and auditioned hundreds more. Many are live musicians or studio technicians whose livelihood depend on the accuracy of their gear, so take their advice seriously.

Not true. They are always looking for the "best bang for the buck" headphone and are very price category conscious.

Do a search there for threads relating to "best under $50" and you'll get dozens of hits. There are as many experts who specialize in headphones priced around $20 as there are who focus on those above $2000.

But lets be honest. The HD650's and HD800's pretty high up even on their list. I wouldn't go so far to say to just get them. But they really are good, at least according to their(The experts at their forum have owned dozens of headphones and auditioned hundreds more) opinions.

I did see the typo later on and didn't want to correct it, but thanks.

    I just checked that Link:
For Sennheisers, the price of the IE8 is a bit steep considering that mine were 200 odd € from Amazon.de (not a merchant on Amazon).
And on that site they are 400$

    Shure SE530 for 450$ - Amazon.de has them for 340€ I think...

I'm sure the Dollar isn't that bad at the moment.

i am an audiophile. there are budget audiophile approved
soundmagic pl-30, i doubt you will find something better for your needs in this price range.

    http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/soundmagic-pl30-adjustable-bass-earphones-323413/index13.html

noise cancellation sucks and totally unnecessary, it processes sounds which degrades it. isolating headphones (all canal phones with good fit) are much better. it cuts out sound from outside by proving a good physical seal, which also lets you listen at lower volumes with more clarity, improving the detail you hear in your sound.

You just need to watch for the deals. When I bought my SE530 they were $349 US.

    FTR, 340€ = $502 US approx. Ouch!
