First off, this is not market advertising or querying in any way. Basicly why I'm here is because I need to do some research for my final tech project (laptop cooler) and I thought I could get some info from here, I'm not sure if this is strictly allowed on the forum though. So if you feel like answering then it would be greatly appreciated. :)

    1. What size is your laptop?

    2. Do you feel that your laptop gets hot to the point that a laptop cooler would be useful (please note the extent)

    3. Do you mainly use it on your lap or a desk (if other then please state)

    4. What is your price range?

    5. Do you own a laptop cooler already? (if so then please state; an exact model isn't really necessary, just the size and cooling etc.)

    6. What would be your prefered material out of metal, wood or acrylic?

    7. Do you feel active cooling is necessary?

You may want to make a poll,
you have that option when you make a post. Its one of the options at the bottom.

for the sake of school, I will fill out your questionnaire

    1) 15.4"
    2) Yes - But to me over 120F is too hot
    3) desk
    4) Infinite - my laptop cooler has nearly $400 of fans in it
    5) The only laptop cooler I own is the one I made (Custom EBM PAPST cooler - Three DV6224 fans made in West Germany, output close to 1000cfm of air volume)

    6) Metal - It is more durable
    7) Yes active cooling is necessary
Both internal fan control and external cooling will help expand the life out of any laptop

Yeah, I looked at the poll option but as far as I could see it only had the option for one question

    1. 15.4"

    2. For casual use and internet browsing, it's fine, but try doing anything like gaming and it can get pretty hot.

    3. Desk mostly, but if I were to get a cooler I would like one that could be used on a desk or in my lap.

    4. I wouldn't want to pay more than $60.

    5. None.

    6. Metal. It absorbs heat more effectively.

    7. Not necessary. Passive coolers are capable of reducing heat as well.

    1. What size is your laptop?

    17", specced below

    2. Do you feel that your laptop gets hot to the point that a laptop cooler would be useful (please note the extent)

Yes. Current record peak on primary graphics card under stress (i.e. gaming) is 98 C. While manufacturer says this is still within limits (they told me 100 C was the rated limit) this was too hot for my tastes.

    3. Do you mainly use it on your lap or a desk (if other then please state)

    Desk (or other flat surface)

    4. What is your price range?

Within reason, not really a factor. But, then, i wouldn't say limitless either. Let's say $300 if I was guaranteed to get good results form the cooler (and 'good results' to me is at least 5-10 degrees drop for that kind of cash)

    5. Do you own a laptop cooler already? (if so then please state; an exact model isn't really necessary, just the size and cooling etc.)

    Yes, a NZXT cryo lx

    6. What would be your prefered material out of metal, wood or acrylic?

Whatever offers the best cooling and durability. Weight is also an issue, but not a big one for me - I'd prioritize cooling capacity first, durability second, and weight third.

    7. Do you feel active cooling is necessary?

Well, depends on what you mean. I'd love to say no I don't feel it's necessary, as I privately feel that it's the responsibility of the manufacturer to provide a product capable of running under load in a reasonably hot room without overheating, but with the top-end components in a laptop-sized chassis, this doesn't seem to be the case. So, since I can't seem to find a high end laptop that doesn't have heat issues, I feel compelled to answer yes here.

    1. What size is your laptop?
    17"

    2. Do you feel that your laptop gets hot to the point that a laptop cooler would be useful (please note the extent)
Yes. Sometimes it gets really warm. I'm actually looking for a cooler at the moment.

    3. Do you mainly use it on your lap or a desk (if other then please state)
    On a desk.

    4. What is your price range?
    Not more than 100$.

    5. Do you own a laptop cooler already? (if so then please state; an exact model isn't really necessary, just the size and cooling etc.)
No, I haven't got one. Sorry.

    6. What would be your prefered material out of metal, wood or acrylic?
Doesn't really matter to me. As long as it's working fine it's no problem for me.

    7. Do you feel active cooling is necessary?
Not really sure about this one but I'd say yes it is necessary. It will without a doubt make sure your laptop lasts longer.
