I want to buy an enclosure with USB 3.0 for external HDD purpose. Can't seem to find any thing decent. There are bunch but I don't have a good feeling about reliability and performance. I want something that can get the most out of the HDD regardless of whether it's 5400 or 7200 RPM.
Good housing would also be great hehe

USB 3.0 Super Fast 2.5" SATA HD Enclosure 1 Push Backup | eBay
I have bought 3 of these. They are fast and nice with no external power required. -
Forgot to mention format is 2.5"
Thanks pmassey, I like the price but design not so much :/
Actually I found these two

any usb3.0 enclosures will work the same with your hdd.
I would also avoid expensive ones because they are just overprice, they aren't faster and shouldn't be much better built then the most cheap ones. Sometimes you pay like 5 times because it just has a brand on it. Like apple stuff. -
It remains to be seen of course, like 'Gigabit' adapters, how much the interface speed actually approaches wire speed.
But nevertheless, just having your even 5400rpm drives on a USB3.0 interface can markedly improve transfer performance. e.g. my Seagate Goflex drives with the swappable interfaces go from 0.026Gb/sec (USB2) to 0.066Gb/sec (USB3) when transferring a large file.
Some cheap ones are definitely lower-performance, so personally unlike __-_-_-__ I'd go for the middle of the road or 'expensive' ones. -

This may be a silly question...but if you were to purchase one of these...would you want to purchase one with an eSATA connection or USB 3.0? Which would prove to be faster??

USB 3.0 all the way and make sure your notebook has the port

They are pretty close performance wise usb 3.0 with maybe a slight edge, but usb devices have to use a transfer protocol to convert which increases latency. (esata is identical to internal sata no latency)
If you dont have a usb3.0 port defintely get esata

eSATA is faster as it natively uses the SATA bus.
While USB signals needs to be converted increasing the overheads. Though USB devices is more versatile and convenient to have. -

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
I know mine is ugly, but it uses only 1 cable with no external power required and is still VERY fast. 1 of the reasons I like it so much. And As I said, I have bought 3 and all three have been great. Plus it comes with backup software.

I recommend an enclosure with a rubberized out shell (or ones with added bumpers), since all portable enclosures will most assuredly get dropped, bumped, jolted, etc.
Someone suggest some good (best) USB 3.0 enclosures
