Been using the search function and once again, this board of knowledgeable noteaphiles has been a great help...I have settled on a set of Fontopia headset (phones?) for watching dvds on my m140.....never cared much for in the ear models but these seem to be rated as very comfortable, good sound, at a good price....but when I looked around on the web for them I found a few different models but a few seem the same to me....ex51LP....ex81LP...and the 71SL...it looks like the 81LP goes over the ear but the 71 and 51 look identical to me....can someone more informed than me tell me the differences, if any? thanks, Dave

okay...a bit more research and I think I found it....seems the 71s have an extension and the 51s are long enough without one... one review of the 71s complained the extension coupler was heavy enough to pull the ear piece out and the reviewer recommended the 51s....so I guess I'll go with that....this has been a great thread with lots of uselful info....thanks again... :)

I tried the 71s once and they sounded alright, but the wires died out on me in less than a year and one earbud stopped working. Everyone I know who has tried the 71s and 51s has had the wires stripped. If you're rough at all with your headphones, I suggest looking for something else.

That's a good point. The wires are wrapped in a very thin layer of rubber. I have not had mine strip yet after about 6 months of use, although I will admit, they aren't used too often (3-4 times a week) and when they are used, I take caution in trying not to pull too hard on the wires.

I have the 71 and 81. the 71 come with extension cable but it's too short to use it without it, unless yo have an on-wire remote.

I like the 81 more because they don't slip out easily. The 71 pop out with a slight tuck on the wire, and not to practical when moving around.

I think they are amazing for the price, they certainly aint the best, but for ~$20, they are veeeery good

BTW www.ilounge.com always review the sony earphones, so in case you want to have one more look before you buy

You know what I just bought today at Circuit City? The Sennheiser PX100, I know they're not earbuds, but **** do they sound amazing. They're 60+tax, but you can find them for about 50 bucks online. I just can't say enough amazing stuff about these headphones. Oh and they're super comfy.

If you've never tried the canal-phones before, beware. While most people rate them as comfortable, there are others who just can't seem to find a good fit and say that they are very uncomfortable. I never had a problem, but I just wanted to let you know that you might.
