After long thought, I decided I was going to get a set of Beats "Studio" from Dre, regardless of what people thought about Beats audio line. There are a few people in my gym that has the Studio and Solo that do look awesome and the sound on the Studio is not bad at all. Since I’m going for the look as well, I didn’t even consider anything else at this point, I want that look! I could order some Sennheiser HD558 for $100! But at this point really, I just want some white Beats!
Off I went to Best Buy, Target, Radio Shack, Staples (First places I go to test). Surprisingly; I didn't walk out with the Studios. Nope, I bought a set of SL150 by Ludacris as an "open box" item from Best Buy. They sounded better than the Studios and they were much cheaper!
The high’s and mid’s on the Souls were much better than that of the Studios. The bass response was deeper on the Studios, but not by that much. If you can get the SOULs for around the $150 mark or better, you’ll really enjoy them. They look awesome, good built quality, light weight and they sound great! Needless to say, I had a wonderful time in the gym today!

They look like puffed-up Fanny Wangs.
(And I never thought I'd type that sentence, ever) -
Thanks for posting the mini review tho. -
How do you work out with headphones on? If I did that my headphones would smell horrible after the first day. Do you have a trick for keeping your headphones "dry"?
-
If your headphones are smelly after a workout, then something is wrong with either the headphones or your personal hygiene. These fit on the ear and not over the ear, so no sweat or anything gets into the ear cup. If you sweat a lot, then I don’t know? I always wipe mine off with wet naps; they are also available in my gym everywhere to wipe down any equipment that you use.
If these had the foam like ear cups, then I could see your concerns. Mine smell just as they did when I took them out of the bag for the first time.
I forgot to mention that these are not NC (noise canceling), but they do block out a lot of outside noise. -

Good purchase. Generally speaking the SL150's got good reviews especially for a "celebrity" headphone.

It has to be said though - out of the entire Beats headphone line, the Studio easily has the best sound, and it's the only model most critics recommend if you had to have Beats. I managed to audition a friend's set and they sounded rather good to this earphone junkie's cochleas.

I was about to purchase the Beats Studio white edition, until the Best Buy lady said they had an open box of Soul sl150 for $139. After listening to a few songs, it was clear either something was wrong with the Studio set or the Soul set was better for far less money! Heck, they were still wrapped in the plastic and were brand new (I talked myself into that part)!
Not only did that lady lose some commissionShe also saved me around $200!
I do agree, I think the Studio set sound pretty good. If they were $200 then they would sound even better!

In the link you provided, the reviewer said he not only think the soul sl150 is the best in the Soul line up, but also better than anything in the Beats line up! :X -
Well yes, but the Studios have active noise cancelling. Which, in some cases, is a lot better than passive isolation (not to mention significantly more comfortable long-term than an on-ear set). Those things you pay for.
-
Long term wearing you forget you have the souls on.
Passive isolation is a great thing in the gym or at home, especially on a subway or train. So I just don't see any advantage at all to choosing the Studio unless you just absolutely love them. I do like the Studio cans, but after I listened to the sl150 and noticed how much lighter they were on my head; especially if I were to as you say "keep them on for a long time", I had to buy the sl150. Of course the price and sound had more to do with this than the weight.
I'm not mad at ya for liking Studio cans, I think they look nice! Keep a battery in your pocket and you should be good to go! -

That's why auditioning audio hardware is so important, IMO - as you experienced first-hand, it can get you better sound and save you quite a bit of doughEnjoy!
