Just wondering if it would be possible to plug the appropriate cable into the headphone jack on my laptop, and then into the headphone jack on a stereo system I have, and get sound from the laptop through the stereo. I'm guessing no; if that's the case, is there an appropriate adapter out there that could make this possible? Thanks!

Yes its possible, you want a 3.5mm male plug, to two RCA male plugs. like this.

You can find them for cheaper than that, sometimes you can get them for just a few USD shipped. -
The stereo's headphone jack is output only. However, you can connect the laptop headphone jack to the RCA input connectors in the back of your stereo using a cable like the one Syndrome mentioned. Radio Shack will have them, or you can order one online.

Hi Syndrome.
Thanks a million. Very useful indeed. I've taken a quick look at the links and i think this could be quite an interesting path to follow. Once again thank you very much. -
Actually I brought S-Video Cable 25 ft. Gold Plated too. $12.5 Not that bad.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
