I am looking at purchasing a decent quality speaker system that is compatible with my m9750, up to about $250.

I've looked at the Logitech Z-5500 and Bose companion 3. What other brands are recommended.

I need at least 2.1 from Bose, but am looking for 5.1 from other brands.

    Any help appreciated.

I have the Bose Companion 3 and the Logitech Z-2300 speakers. Between the two I'd get the Z-2300 (whatever the 5.1 variant is) because the sound is of better quality and they are significantly less money (~$100 vs. $250). The Bose sound nice but the bass is a bit overwhelming sometimes (not 'punchy' enough in my opinion). It's unbelievable how much sound can come from such small speakers though. And they really look slick. The mid-range is a bit weak on both speakers but the Bose are a bit better.

The Z-2300 will get louder but honestly I don't know how much louder than the Companion 3 you'd want to get.

    Speakers I'd recommend:
-JBL Spot speakers - one hell of a speaker for the price (2.1)
-Logitech Z-2300 - also one hell of a speaker for the price, but the JBLs are better for quality. JBL is not as loud though.

While I like the Companion 3 are nice I wouldn't buy them again. I might return my pair because they're not $250 sound. You can get the same sound quality for $100 or so.

Edit: I should note I am not an audiophile and don't know a terrible lot about sound.
