    Hi all, this site has been such great help with both my laptop and razor mouse before so I’ll ask for help on this one too.

    Planned to buy speakers for my Sona Vaio FW41, will mostly use them outdoors in the summer. They will be used for music/movie&tv/sports. Not gaming.

    My budget is limited, so no expensive stuff unfortunately, I’ve had the advice already on Logitech z523, which is in the right range of my budget, but, what I understand those speakers and sub (not sure if sub is necessary?) is meant for the sound to bounce back on a wall, which is not very smart if you’re outdoors as there are no walls.

    I’m not gonna use them to throw a party or anything, it’s meant to have a louder sound when you watch youtube, a movie, or sport event, or put on music to drown out the noise from the neighbor.

    Is wireless good or does those mean trouble? Lots of cables is not very practical outdoors.

    I got a pair of Klipsch Promedia 2.1s on eBay for 99 dollars. Totally for movies, sports and music IMO. Also good for gaming, but the lack of positional audio due to only 2 speakers is the problem.

    I could go on for hours about audio equipment. But I will keep it simple.

    * If you prioritize sound quality over convenience, get Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers like what chillerman suggested (+rep to chillerman). They give you fantastic bang-for-your-buck audio. Costs $150 new from a retailer, $100 new from eBay, or $70-$80 used on eBay.

    * If you prioritize convenience over sound quality, then get a portable iPod dock speaker system with a 3.5mm auxiliary input, like this one (Logitech S715i).

    It doesn't really matter which one you buy, just as long as you buy from a reasonably reliable brand (Logitech, Altec Lansing, Klipsch, etc). They are all going to cost around $100, and sound about the same (which is not-fantastic), because they emphasize portability & convenience over sound quality. If you decide on this route, then just get the Logitech S715i and be done with it.

    Logitech is absolutely not going out of business.

    In 2011, they made :
    * $2.36b in revenue (up from $1.97b in 2010).
    * $128mm in net income (up from $65mm in 2010)

    Their stock price went up +2.18% today.

    Logitech is not going out of business.

    It never is, but its still the only way to get the best sound. In any event, that all depends on you budget a how important the subtle nuances are to you: If you want sound quality thats one thing, if you prefer convenience that something totally different.

    If sound quality is important to you, the individual components will do that best. So the focus of your audio selection is to have the best speakers you can afford. That is, at least half your budget should go to them.

    If convenience is your priority, the above advice is well stated. These systems are usually already set up in stores and easy to sample

    (note: If they are not set up you can always request it. It's not too much to ask).
