Can anyone reccomend a good set of speakers for that price range? Good bass is probably the most important part.

Which config do you want? 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1?

I'm thinking 2.1. They will be in a dorm room, and used mainly for music. I was thinking about the Logitech Z-2300. I can get them from amazon for about 65 bux. Thoughts?
    FYI I have a Lenovo T61

Music doesn't sound that great on any speakers in that price range, IMO. If you own a stereo (or boombox or anything), just connect your computer to that.

I can agree with that, i still use the system in my barracks on base and it works quite well for the money. Nothing amazing but gets the job done for the price.

I've been using the Altec Lansing VS4121 for about 2 years now and it hasn't dissapointed. The bass is astounding.

GREAT System. I have one back in canada. We have sound proof walls like studio (no carpet its all layers of drywall special gel etc) and those can max out volume no prob with minimal sound distortion and quality is great. +1 for these bad boys
