Hello, I've been lurking awhile and this is probably the noobiest post to have as my first, but I had to ask for piece of mind, so here goes:

I just bought the Logitech x-230 speaker system today (beautiful sounding, by the way) and I have the satellites placed on either side of my laptop, with the subwoofer on the ground below my desk. Is this sort of setup safe for my laptop monitor? I hear the sub isn't too good to have near the monitor but with it on the ground I'm not too worried about it. What about the satellites though? I assume that most computer speakers (especially more modern ones) are magnetically shielded. So am I just freaking out over nothing, or will extended exposure shorten the life of my laptop monitor?

Yes, you're just freaking out. :p

The issue with speakers damaging monitors only applies to CRTs and as you pointed out, virtually all speakers designed for computer use are magnetically shielded. Even having the sub sitting next to your notebook wouldn't cause any problems (well, maybe vibration), but it sounds best under the desk anyway.

    Oh, and welcome to NBR!

yeah, I'll agree that they're safe for laptops but I've seen first hand what they'll do to a cheap LCD TV......but that's a totally differnt story......I've used the x-230 in the past and never had a problem but they lacked the omph I was after so I obught the z-2300's.......I'm cosidering getting some Klipsch Pro Media 2.1's as well but firts I need to get some more cash for extra's like that......what with tuition and other fees I'm pretty much broke right now......anyways I hope you enjoy you new speakers and welcome to NBR.

I have the X-230s, in pretty much the same position as yours.
I know your question's been answered, just wanted to say that I've had no problems.
As long as the laptop isn't on the subwoofer or something it'll be fine.
    Nice speakers.
