So i recently decided to splurge and buy a new keyboard, mouse and headset. I am up to the mouse after purchasing the logitech G19 keyboard (i'm a sucker for flashy lights and unnecessary features like a colour LCD in my keyboard - hence i have an alienware)

    I am strongly considering the Logitech G700 at an awesome price of $70AU. However i am still considering others;
    • Logitech M950 Performance Mouse
    • Logitech G500
    • Logitech G9x
    • Razer Imperator
    • Razer Naga Epic
    • Razer Lachesis
    • Razer Mamba
    • Razer DeathAdder
    • Cyborg R.A.T 7/9

Although i do play WOW casually (< 3 hours per week) i would mostly use it for web surfing and uni work. I also may get back into FPS games in the future... So really im after an all-rounder :p

I have a half palm, half claw grip and a normal size hand - not huge but not small. I'm currently using a QcK+ soft mousepad (but this may be replaced)... apparently those details help

I'v decided what im most interested in is comfort rather than extreme gaming performance. Price is not a huge factor but i will be taking value into consideration. Also, while i would probably prefer wireless this is also not that bigger deal for me

    Any opinions are welcome!

I hope your "normal" sized hands are smaller than mine.
Just the same, I voted for Naga Epic since I find everything about it very "classy".

To be honest i have no idea what a normal size hand is but my hand is 19cm from middle finger to start of wrist.. i guess thats normal?

only thing holding me back from the naga is that im worried that it may be too bulky.. oh and the price lol bit much for the casual gamer

My hand is 18cm and I find the Naga and g500 to be extremely comfortable. I loved the Naga for WoW, but I got rid of it when I quit and switched to the g500.

Oh ok so do u find the g500 better for everyday, non-gaming use? or did u switch because u started playing FPS's?

They're both pretty good for everyday use. I just felt like the keypad on the side of the Naga was unnecessary for me. I gave it to my brother because he's a poor college student and had a crappy mouse :D

One thing I like better about the g500 is that it doesn't show wear as much. My Naga was starting to get worn spots where the rubberized finish was coming off. The parts of the g500 that you grip are textured, so wear isn't as obvious.

Bulky - coz of the wireless base?
You can just use the usb braided cable if you're out of the house.

If I didn't have the Naga, I'd probably vote for a Steelseries mouse (if it was listed lol)

I voted for the DeathAdder and Mamba, because they have the same shape. Unless you really need wireless, my vote goes to the DeathAdder. Its 3,500 DPI optical sensor is one of the best in the business, and it's a really comfortable shape. Button placement is perfect, and at $45 on Amazon it won't hit your wallet too hard.

The Mamba is essentially a wireless DeathAdder with a 5,600 DPI laser sensor and two extra buttons on top for DPI changing. I love mine; it's an excellent mouse, but I wouldn't recommend paying full price for it; find it on sale or something. I got mine for $70 refurbished from Woot's one-day sale.

The G700, DeathAdder and Mamba are quite good.
My friend has the RAT, apparently you can actually get out a screwdriver and adjust it's shape and after he adjusted it, it fit his hand perfectly, better than any other mouse. So if your willing to do that, the RAT may be perfect.

The M950 MX Performance is also very comfortable, but it's basically the same shape as the G700. I have it, and for you I'd really recommend not getting it. It's expensive, the DPI is good enough for MMO and RTS but maybe not FPS, and if you have a good mousepad and are going to be using it, then pretty much the only reason to buy it over the G700 is gone (The ability to use it anywhere, just go get a table, anything, even a glass table, and put your mouse on it and your good to go).

hands down, g700. never owned a better mouse, and after using the razer mamba (ONLY in my opinion), the g700 is far superior in my book. besides, you can never go wrong with logitech.

since I will never look at wired mice again, vote goes to G700

simply the best wireless mouse to date.
    - 1ms response time - check
    - 5700 dpi switchable - check
    - profiles and macro (onboard memory) - check
    - more buttons ftw!
    - tiny usb receiver - check
    - replacable battery (nimh) - check
    - comfortable - check
    - hyperscroll (i love it)
    - option to recharge via usb cable /can be used wired - check
    - great sensor - check
if it has darkfield sensor it will be excellent !!

thanks for all the responses guys. I got a friend to bring in a g700 today so i could try it and i found it very comfortable (palm support was particularly good).

Decided it was out of the deathadder and g700 (would like the naga, rat or mamba but for the prices of them its just a bit too much of a gamble)

Ended up getting the g700 over the death adder (also bought the G930 logitech headphones so bit of a logitech fanboy now with my keyboard, speakers, mouse and headphones all logitech :p).

The only reasons i ended up picking the g700 are:
    1) it has more buttons for my casual wow playing
    2) i figured wireless is a benefit on a desk already crammed with crap (5.1 logitech THX Z-series speakers taking up the majority of this room and leaving lots of wires everywhere)
    3) Generally, iv found logitech products to last longer aesthetically than razers. Dont get me wrong razer make some great products but both razer mouses i currently have worn down very quickly (pads falling off, peeling rubber etc)
    4) i got a chance to test the g700 so i know its comfortable for me

Thanks again for all the responses hopefully this thread can help someone in a similar predicament in the future

Although I have had some issues with logitech mouse durability in the past, my G700 has fared pretty well over the year or so that I have had it. The only real wear that has happened is the nickel plating (or whatever kind of plating it is) on the scroll wheel wearing off next to the rubber strip, but that is mostly because of how I use my scroll wheel.

I am not the kind of guy who understands what does DPI / laser / super precision / titanium cookies does to my mouse. However i understand a lot of buttons. I mean... a lot of buttons is cool. You can assign different behavior to them, you can bind all kinds of macro actions, you can click them and its super glowing. In fact i can do casual gaming and some other stuff without a need to reach for keyboard. What can go wrong with that?

So ye, i ve chose razer naga.

As to "will it fit my hand?" only chance to find out is to try it.

    Razer Deathadder/Mamba all the way.
The R.A.T.s are nice but they need a little getting used to.

That would be because no one has ever heard of it. Now that I do look at it, it seems kind of strange; $55 for a mouse that doesn't have a laser sensor is kind of steep.

Lasers are not inherently any better than optical sensors. In fact, in my experience they're usually more picky about the surfaces you can use them on. The only real advantage they have is higher DPI, which is of limited use when you're already over 3,000 with optical.

I have had more issues with optical mice than laser mice, namely not working well on surfaces with low reflectivity. For less expensive mice like the MX518 (now G400) optical is fine, but for $55 I would expect that they would have a higher end sensor as optical sensors typically aren't as high a performance level as gaming grade lasers (such as the laser in the G700).

The DeathAdder is $60 MSRP (although only $45 on Amazon), and has a 3,500 DPI optical sensor. It's still one of the more popular gaming mice out there.

DPI != performance. Do you have any sources to cite to support your claim that lasers are actually more high performance than optical sensors? I have a study from 2007 showing that the original DeathAdder (1,800 DPI model) had the highest perfect control speed of any gaming mouse, including laser. Granted, it's slightly dated by now, but there haven't really been such comprehensive tests published in the meantime.
