I own a good deal of screens, like my 37" matte LG HDTV and recently the high end matte screen on my Clevo P170HMx. (AUO B173HW01 V5)
Can the Elite also color calibrate TV screens?

    Thanks for the reply.
From what i gathered Spider3 Elites bought from 2010 to now get the new version for free while the Pro version (Software difference only) can buy the upgrade for a extra fee.

Im also curious to know if it can calibrate TVs.
I have tried to calibrate as best as i can do without proper hardware or software.
My main usage on my HDTV is gaming (PC & consoles) and bluray movies.

you can find colour profiles made by spyder for laptop screens in notebookcheck's reviews which they make during the reviews.. so you can try finding a laptop with your screen there and check how the color profile looks on your notebook
granted the same colour profile does not work across a whole line of displays and it has to be made separately for each display, but it'll give you a good idea if you use one that was made for the same model..
It might not end up being a 100% accurate so you'll have to change colour temps and all to get it looking decent but it'll give you a good idea whether your notebook will benefit from colour calibration

Hmmm. Never heard of this stuff before.

I guess one of the nice parts about being colorblind is that you don't really need to care about color accuracy.
