I put together my own external hard drive with a nice Maxtor 500 gb drive in a Venus DS3 enclosure. I connect it to my e1705 with USB. It never spins itself down. Is there anyway to make it after a certain period of inactivity?

No, not the fan. I'm talking about the hard drive platter itself spinning down. Just like the hard drive in computers doesn't spin continuously.
