For sure, the bytecc is not portable. Even if you managed to slip it into your bag, you'd have to worry about the loose wires underneath, just not ideal. If you check out my review, i go into what you should look for in a cooler and what not.

The thing about the spire cooler is that it blows air across the bottom of the case and if i'm not mistaken, the vents both point inwards so the extreme right and left of a wider notebook won't get the air.

I don't really see why you need a portable cooler for going around campus and what not... I only remove my laptop from my room for classes where I run off of battery with the processor forced to the lowest clock speed, but that's just me. They both come with great reviews though, maybe some one else can offer some more helpful advice since i don't have any experience with the spire cooler

I have the Spire for my Toshiba P105-S9312 and it is awsome. Very portable and keeps my laptop nice and cool, even under heavy gaming. If you need portable go with the Spire.

If heat is such a concern when you're taking notes, I'm assuming taht you're going to be putting it on your lap. In that case, the Bytecc cooler is useless.
