So, my foray into designer stands hasn't been going well, and I'm hoping you guys have some kind of answer to a snazzy but practical stand for my Dells.

I bought Balmuda Floaters not so long ago for my Macbooks. The result was very nice visually - but I started having stability issues. A quick investigation uncovered that the unibody MBP's can actually run considerably hotter in lid-closed mode even with good air circulation and low ambients, so that killed the idea. I still use one at the office where I have the spare MBP + Floater + ACD on a desk corner, but that's only because I rarely power that one up. At home I'm back on the Griffin stand, so that was a stupid waste of money.

And for a while I was interested in getting the Balmuda Lift for the Dell Covets, but gave up on the idea. Partially because of the weight concern - the M6500's are significantly heavier than the MBP's, and also because I think the slim round base doesn't actually match the Dell's styling. And maybe a rare dose of sanity that I shouldn't be spending $750 on two stands.

So right now I'm using an E dock on the Covet at the office, but I'm not happy about using it at home due to the depth since my desk area at home backs onto walls. Instead I've found a couple of old PORT laptop stands which actually works quite well in their general stand-iness, but they're plastic, fugly, creaky and stuff. Also blue. So not good. And I haven't really seen anything else I like - which is why I come to you.

So what I'm looking for is:
    - Securely holds a 17-inch notebook which weighs 4 kilos
    - Raises unit for open-screen operation so that screen is eye-level for use alongside a 30" monitor
    - Ideally built-in cable management and USB2.0 hub would be a bonus
    - doesn't stick out more than the elevated laptop at the back
    - LOOKS COOL, and goes with orange

    Thanks for any suggestions.
