Hi...
I am looking to re-organize my storage options. Currently, I have 1 60 GB portable HDD, and 2 250 GB internal HDD from old laptops, which are in their respective cases. But together, they make a mess of things when I try to organize files, backup etc.
I was thinking of getting myself a file server for my home use, but am suspecting that would be a bit of an overkill. Basically what I am looking for is a desktop storage device with a large capacity to which I can do my daily backups (folders + drive images etc) and use the smaller portable devices to carry along.
Any recommendations? In all likelihood, I will be using the TP Advanced Mini Dock on my desk (which will host an external monitor, the printer and perhaps the desktop storage device).
Thanks

i'd suggest going with a quality product.
Take a look at this one : QNAP Systems, Inc. ( TS-110 Turbo NAS ) - Quality Network Appliance Provider
It's a single bay NAS system.
It's a bit over your price range (since you have to add a HDD to it's price) but it's a very good product.
I myself own a QNAP TS-210 which is the same as the one i am recommending but it's a dual NAS meaning i have one drive backing up the other (RAID1). This is done so if one HDD fails the other still holds all the data.
But it is out of your price range.
You can run daily backups (with a bundled software) or with any other tool.
Read about it's features, it's very nice.. -
