I bought my wife a Dell Vostro touch screen enabled laptop.

Can you recommend a good stylus for this? Preferably DELL branded if there is

An Amazon or eBay purchase link would be highly appreciated

    Is it capacitive or magnetic?

It will be capacitive, the Vostro doesn't have a second digitizer for a pen like a TabletPC has.

So does that mean there is no point buying a stylus?

Well, a passive capacitive stylus is considered as a stylus these days. Thank you, iPad.

Sometimes having a pen is indeed better than using your finger even if it's capacitive.

Basically anything that looks good to your wife will do. There isn't much (if any) difference among passive capacitive styluses.

The tabletpcreview forums should have a list of styluses somewhere with some capacitive ones in there.

Contrarily to popular belief, not all capacitive styluses are created equal. They won't be as good as one you'd get with an active digitizer from Wacom or N-Trig, but some are still better than other. They all have fat round tips, but some are fatter than others and some just have a better feel when you use them on the display. A stylus is far from necessary, but if she intends to use it for note-taking, then a decent capacitive stylus will be better than no stylus.
