Hey folks, I'm currently looking for a 17" case (that will probably get here before my notebook!). I would like it to be on the lighter side, which I know is difficult with a 17" notebook, and obviously as cost-effective as possible. Also, I prefer any type of case with shoulder strap to rolling cases, backpacks, or neopreve sleeves. Here's the best that I've found so far:

    - Targus TXL417 case that is 3.5 lbs
    - A case by Empire that is 2.2 lbs (!)

Anyone have any suggestions about cases or at least companies to look up that have decent 17" cases on the light side? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I looked into those and they were heavier and more pricey than I was looking for... but what are your thoughts of the Belkin case?

I've been looking for quite some time for a nice bag to fit my new Inspiron 1721 that's showing up soon, but I can't find anything that catches my eye. Do you have links for those two bags that you were looking at?

I use a Tom Bihn Super Ego bag with a Brain Cell. Costs but gives me lots of room and can carry just the laptop around with the Brain Cell. I popped for the Absolute shoulder strap too, worth the extra $25 and with the new Super Ego one can switch straps very easily. Actually first read of them here on this site last when I was lurking.

I had previously tried Timbuk2 bags and just didn't like the feel for me. Good bags too but not right for my ample rear end.

^^^ Thank you for the suggestion. Very lightweight, but wow, a bit pricey for me. Looks like a great bag though.
