    Hi,

I am looking for a nice CD/DVD drive for my soon-to-arrive Netbook that will simply allow me to install software, import audio CDs, reformat if I have to, and things of that nature.

    Any suggestions?

    It's a Hannspree SN12 "subnotebook" (it's a netbook).

I was considering either that horizontal Samsung (thanks for the suggestion, m11.x, I have been looking at that drive) or the vertical Asus drive. The two seem to have the best reviews across both Newegg and Amazon.

Amazon actually has their own drive that I was considering: Amazon.com: AmazonBasics USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive (Black): Electronics

The design looks so simple and appealing, and it's quite cheap with free shipping. The product description is a nice write up, too.

Would there be a such thing as an external drive that uses 1 USB port? I am assuming if I go with such then I would have to have an outlet for AC power? The reason I ask is because I have 3 USB ports, would need two for the drive, and I will be getting a USB Mouse, and I also need a port for my printer, meaning I'd be unplugging things frequently to manage ports. Is there a such thing as USB ports that plug into a USB port? That would be something else for me to consider if such a thing exists.

    Thanks guys.

Yeah, that's one of the drives I was considering. I didn't know that Newegg had the mail-in rebate though, so thanks a lot for that.

I suppose I will just go with the cheapest drive.

^^I think the cheapest would be the Asus (w/the rebate)? :)
Either way you can't go wrong with any that were listed above by the other OP's :)

Yep, looks like it with that rebate, not sure how long that will last though, but if I can purchase with that then that's a great deal. Thanks again.
