Bomb the beach: great weather is here, time to take some of the work outside. I've never used an anti-glare filter on my monitor before. Do they really help work to block out the sun? Are they worth the money or are they a gimmick? Which one do you use on your monitor to prevent your eyeballs from suffering fourth-degree burn wounds?

As long as your screen is bright enough, you shouldn't have any issues with an anti-glare protector. However, I never bothered since I don't mind using my glossy screen at the beach or outside (and it's damn bright here).

I hate glare, but I hate the sun too, so it's usually not a problem. If I need to be outside I just sit in the shade and angle the screen to minimize glare.

I love matte screens.
For the one laptop I own with a glossy one, I got a matte screen protector from photodon.com. Works excellently, cuts glare down! -
How senstive are your eyes to the sun do you have an absolute need to wear sunglasses on a hot July 4th day cause your eyes are super sensitive to the sun or conversely can you walk around all day sans shades? Me I can't go outside in the sun without sunglasses cause my eyes are sensitive and blinded by bright sunlight.

Well sitting in the shade is good but not good when you need to get a little vitamin D your body absolutely needs and when trying to add a little color to your skin that white trash like me needs from time to time. No disrespect CokeCanNinja, just sayin' btw your username is pretty slick: don't zip it, sip it up

Even with glare filters it will still be difficult to see in direct sunlight.
Unless you use this:
Sun worshippers: how good are those anti-glare filters?
