My headset mic is starting to break so I'm looking for new, supra-aural headset mics. I prefer USB plugs so I don't have to fiddle around with 2 wires. I'm looking for a modest price around <$50. I'll be willing to stretch my budget. The one I have right now, and I consider pretty good, is the Logitech ClearChat USB. I want it to have as good of quality as my headset but overall, the build quality has to be good, really good.
Thanks for any help.

I think if you're hovering around the cheapo price range you're best off sticking to mainstream brands with good warranties like Logitech. The replacement model seems to be the H330.
Aside from that, I know a friend has been using a Microsoft Lifechat LX3000 for a while and it doesn't seem to have failed on him - and he sounds OK, not excessively nasal.
If you want to raise the budget by a decent degree the MMX 2 is pretty solidly built, and offers better performance (especially in terms of the headphone component) than most entry-level headsets.

The worst headset buy I made was a bunch of Plantronics folding ones for the office. They fell apart in a matter of weeks/months. Buying MMX 1 & 2's stopped that. -
For sub-$50 I would highly recommend the Creative Alpha or Sigma. I had the Alphas for a while and were the last of a string of about 5 or 6 USB headsets (sub-$100, including a Microsoft Lifechat which broke physically within an hour of unboxing, which was alright since they weren't comfortable anyway) I had purchased and either returned or given away due to being uncomfortable or extremely flimsy. I loved my Alphas because of the superb comfort for long gaming sessions and the detachable mic for just listening to music. I would suggest purchasing the Sigmas over the Alphas due to the better quality headband since my Alphas were left on the couch and my dog laid on them, snapping the part where the headband met the earcup. I fixed it with Gorilla Glue, and while being slightly unsightly (say that 10x fast...), it held perfectly for the next 18 hours, which at that point my wife had left the dogs out when she went to work and they decided to make a meal out of my headset.
Long story short, if I were going for another wired USB gaming headset in the sub-$50 category, I'd go with the Creative Sigmas. As with any headset, you just have to be a little careful with them and they'll last you forever. Unfortunately due to my last dog-headset incident, I'll be going wireless for ease of storage afterwards. -
