I was reading a thread about someone's laptop that got fried by a power outage..and it sorta made me paranoid. Should i get a Belkin's Mini Surge Protector with USB Charger. Like would it make a difference if there was one? Is there even a use for it?

You're more likely to get a surge from dial up internet but if you're paranoid, regualr ones aren't much more expensive than regualr gang leads and sometimes offer warranties for your tech...

i would get a real surge protector. that little thing is for people who travel. get one from ur local electronics store. not that expensive too. and yes, if experience a lot of bad weather in ur area. what i do is just shutdown and un plag my computer from the wall socket if i get a T-storm(t stands for thunder)

Hahaha I love how instead of writing out "thunder-storm", you wrote T-storm and took the time to explain what t stands for.
    Haha nice! :p

Back on topic, I would suggest getting a surge protector. It's not expensive and will give you peace of mind. I have the APC single outlet travel surge protector with phone line protection, 120V. Less than 15$ from their website.

Don't look to save in a surge protector power board, get the highest protection you can get, it will protect your computer and other devices attached to it.
I know many people who have gotten their computers fried by lightning.
