I need a backpack that can carry my XPS 1530 as well as college books, notebooks, materials, etc.

What are the main differences between the two backpacks?

I've had both of these backpacks. The Swiss Synergy I purchased from Best Buy in late 2005 and returned it. I currently own the Mobile Edge Express backpack.

The only reason I returned the Swiss Gear backpack was because of its size, looking back however - I've learned that it is easily one of the better notebook backpacks available on the market.

Both are good backpacks, the Swiss Gear one is higher quality, but it also costs 2x as much. The Swiss Gear one also has more room and can stand upright without little help.

The Mobile Edge Express backpack is pretty cheap and high value at only $39.99, it has nice pockets on the side for a mouse, power adapter or pens and pencils. It's zippers are rather low quality, especially in comparison with the Swiss Gear. However, the good thing about the Mobile Edge is that it is rather compact, especially when compared to the Swiss Gear Synergy.

The Synergy is by no means a small backpack, you can fit a lot of items in the backpack.

Honestly, I think they're equal - both have their faults and pros .... I'm not a big fan of the rather excessive Mobile Edge branding that is on the Express, but it's not the worst thing in the world. The Express also looks better IMHO than the Synergy.

If it were me though, and you want to carry ALOT of items, my bet would be the Swiss Gear Synergy ... the thing will last you years. It is very comfortable and is very sturdy. It's retail price is $79, which can be had much cheaper through online outlets Buy.com or Amazon.com. The Backpacks zippers are very high quality which won't get stuck or caught on the little teeth of the zippers, which is common from the ME Express.
