I have my new Notebook, but I need to synch my customer data base with my main office desktop at least once per week. I assume that a USB cable would work for this, but it appears that the Notebook requires the same type of connector as the desktop.

Can I get a cable that has 2 flat connectors, and is that what I should use? Any other advice would be welcome.

BTW, I just found you folks, and I hope to learn a lot from you,

    Thanks,

    Gary

well that is an option, i have seen software that is made for what you are doing, which comes with the A type USB cable your talking about... However, you might want to look into going wireless with the two. chances are that you already have a wifi card in your notebook, so all you would need is a NIC card in your desktop (most desktops already have them) and a wireless router. I would use the 802.11g standard. You can find these at almost any computer store (compUSA, best buy, circuit city, etc.). They range in price, but you can usually find one for around 30 bucks. With this, you can share your internet connection, as well as any other files you would need. You can buy synch software that can be used over wifi and you wont have to have your laptop right there when you do it....

here is a couple links to some software that can be used for synching anything with a wide variety of connection methods....
    http://www.tgrmn.com/
    http://www.easy2sync.com/en/produkte/index.php?
you can buy the USB networking cables (google it) alone and then use the software above to synch....I would reccomend going wireless though..

If it is just once per week and you know which files are the customer db, you could use one of those usb thumb (also called flash, pen, etc) drives to do the transfer.
