I've been looking to buy an Advanced Mini Dock for my T400, to connect it to a 1440p display when I get one. I recently found out that the Advanced Mini Dock has a key, and the cheaper ones available of the 'bay have no key. So my question is- can the dock be used without a key?

You may need to check maximum resolution supported by your laptop graphics card first.

The dock should probably work without a key, someone else may need to verify this.

Yeah, I've already verifird the card will work up to 2560x1600 with a Dual Link DVI.
The dock is sold "unlocked, but no keys."

    Most likely it will work,

Confirm with the seller, he should guarantee that it is working in it current condition.

The key is only needed to lock the laptop into the dock (and the dock is attached to the desk, so unwanted people cannot steal it). As long as the dock is in unlocked position it's fully usable even when there is no keys.

The dock is going to be safe on my desk at home, so that OK. Thanks a lot!
