Apologies for yet another backpack+sleeve thread but I am needing to ask if anyone else has first hand experience of this setup.

After impulse buying the lenovo backpack and finding it not quite to my liking due to the lack of padding in the laptop compartment and the elastic pocket, I am looking for something tougher to hold my notebook. I can't seem to find one with an all encompassing note compartment that I like to will have to suffice for the type that leaves part of the notebook exposed which I don't like.

My solution as others have tried is to buy a seperate sleeve for the notebook. At the moment I am thinking of the Swissgear Sahara plus a targus 15.4" sleeve as some people have reported the zip of belkin ones coming into contact with the notebook corners.

So, long story short, will this fit and provide adequate protection while allowing books to be packed alongside?

Well, I am still procastrinating about how best to transport my notebook.

I found a sahara in a local shop albeit for an extornionate price but it was good to see it in person. Whilst I am pretty sure it would hold the T500 a sleeve also is out of the question so perhaps I am worrying too much about the top part being uncovered, the only other option I have is to buy one that would fit a 17" notebook and go with that but that seems excessive.

Anyone think I am just being crazy?

Just a small update in case anyone is in a similar position.

Decided to go with the sahara after seeing it in a shop, foolishly didn't test out if the notebook would actually fit and find now that it doesn't as the corners are hard pressed against the top of it.

However I also got the sleeve and it fits in the main compartment of the bag fine albeit slightly tight at the top but still the notebook is protected at least so rather than go through a returns process and seeing as I like the actual look and feel of the bag I think I will just keep it and go with my original plan of using a sleeve plus backpack.

If someone does have a something the size of the T500 you will have to find a taller notebook backpack as the sahara is not deep enough when the notebook compartment is included due to the bottom padding.

Some things just have to be tried out in person --- buying on line is fine, AFTER you've had a chance to try them out on your own laptop first. When buying accessories for my laptop, I've gone through much trial and error (and frustration), and have finally learned to go to the retail stores WITH my laptop, before I actually purchase the accessories on line. That's really the only way I'm going to be able to see whether the accessory works well or not. The real problem arises, of course, if the specific product I'm interested in is not available to see, in person. But interestingly, I've noticed that I've always been able to find a very acceptable substitution, when I've gone to a place with a large selection, like, for example, Best Buy.
