I am interesting an buying an external display(s) for my desk. I'm starting grad school this fall, and I'll be putting in some long hours, so I want an LCD that has a height adjustment and a little higher DPI than my 15.4 WSXGA+ screen. I recently borrowed a viewsonic VG2230WM for a few weeks, and I really liked that screen. I actually extended my desktop on it and placed my T61 right below it.

Now that I've had to take the external LCD back, I am ready to purchase one. However, I would appreciate some advice. I was just going to get a 22 or 24 inch panel and drive it from my notebook. But, I think it may be best for me to get an advanced mini dock, and maybe two 19" displays and just park my notebook on my desk, and buy a wireless keyboard and mouse.

I'm trying to keep my budget LOW. But if you had a choice between a single 24" panel or say two 19" panels with a mini dock, which would you prefer? I'd probably have to drop down to the 19 inch panels because of my budget. I'm pretty partial to Viewsonic as far as the brand goes.

I'm going to grad school, and I'll be doing a LOT of reading on my laptop as a I have a e-library of 700+ academic titles.

    Thanks,

    CT

My setup (with a Dell Latitude D830) is to have the laptop at desk-level, and to elevate my 24" LCD (Dell 2408WFP) about a foot off of the desk. You can either buy a special LCD stand to do this, or you can be like me, and just use some old packing cases. I have the Dell docking station, so its all pretty integrated, although before I got the docking station, I would simply have to plug all the wires back in every time I used it. The setup works well, takes up less than half my desk, and since I'm using the laptop's LCD and the external LCD simultaneously, I don't feel the need to buy an external keyboard.

Personally, I'd say, go for a 24" LCD (or even the 22" Lenovo 1920x1200 display, if you want to have all Lenovo components -- the Thinkvision L220x), instead of the 2 x 19". Buy the Lenovo docking station off of eBay when businesses are dumping them by the thousands.
