I just bought a Latitude E6500 for college (dimensions for your convenience Width: 14.1"/358mm Depth: 10.1"/257mm Height: 1-1.3"/27/33mm), and a Targus 15.4” CityGear Chicago Laptop Backpack with a laptop pocket of 14.2 x 2 x 11.6”.

I'd like to get a (neoprene) sleeve for an added layer of protection so I can put my E6500 and in the sleeve in the backpack. Because the laptop compartment opens up length-wise (the 14.1/14.2 inch deep way), I'm not too concerned about the sleeve being too "long," but I've read that most sleeves fit loosely, and I'd like one that will fit tightly enough so that my E6500 in the sleeve easily fits in the compartment.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

It has an hourglass design so it will definitely give you a tight fit. The neoprene is really thick so it provides great protection.

This would probably be perfect for you. I would obviously check out buy.com/amazon.com for better prices...

The zipper is on the end also so it's great for using in a backpack as you can just slide the zipper open and take out the laptop without having to take it all out. These sleeves really are a hidden gem, IMO.

I am not sure if it will fit in the laptop pocket as the sleeve itself is thick, but check the dimensions and see...
If it won't fit, you could just put the sleeve/laptop in one of the other compartments. I carried around my laptop with this sleeve in my backpack (in the main compartment) along with 4-5 college textbooks for 4 years and never had any problems whatsoever. G'luk.

Since it's roughly the same size as my T500, I would recommend the Zeroshock III, a very durable sleeve. For my T500 with the sticking-out 9-cell battery, the sleeve is very, very tight, so I'd expect that without the battery sticking out, it would be a bit looser: just right!

I got mine on eBay from a reputable power seller that specializes in selling Zeroshock sleeves.

I ended up buying a sleeve from Bed, Bath, and Beyond ( http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=16473405&RN=1147&KSKU=118969) because it was only $9.99. I have no idea what brand it is, but it fits perfectly! It's not too tight that I worry the zipper will damage the laptop, but it's certainly quite snug, and it fits in my backpack easily. I don't know how durable it is--I've had it for a few days--but at $9.99, I figure it's worth the price.
