I asked this question a few times and have even emailed timbuk2 with no response. I received a 50$ coupon a few weeks ago from hp and have no idea what to do buy. I want an ogio metro but am thinking of using this coupon for a timbuk 2 messenger bag but i'm unable to figure out what size this bag is.

What size do you guys think this bag is. Im hoping it is one of those with two pockets so i can keep my laptop seperate from my books. I really hope this isnt a small bag that only has one pocket but im so unsure and timbuk2 never gettign back to me is most disappointing. I just have no idea what i will ever do with this coupon if i don't buy this backpack.

All timbuk2 notebook messenger bags have an internal sleeve. It should also be a medium if it is supposed to hold 15.4'' notebooks. $79.99 is a great price for the bag, and with your coupon, its just amazing.
-
you want it? you can have it for 40$. Is thsi bag that practical? I have heard everyone say its simply amazing but have never seen anyone with one. in essence, i would have to pay 25$ for the bag after the coupon with tax shipped. Should I pull the trigger tonight? that is the question.
edit-i mean the coupon for 40$. -
Well, the small and the medium do have a discernible difference, and if the picture displayed on your link is the actual bag itself, it's most likely going to be a medium or a large. Plus, going off of the specs listed, if it holds a 15.4" notebook, it'll probably be a medium.
Being that it's a laptop messenger, it has two compartments (aside from all the little pockets to put pencils, keys, etc. in) one for the notebook, one for the rest of the stuff. If you can get it at the price you say, that'll be an awesome price. -
na i dont want the bag, I have got a very very similar one. A Pakuma choroka K2, their designs are almost identical, except the pakuma has slightly more compartments and a better notebook protection sleeve. Its cheaper too! But the Timbuk2s have way cooler colours...
-
okay, im gonna get it. Im kinda upset timbuk2 didnt email me back though. 25$ for it is a great price, the ogio was gonna cost me 58$ and I guess I can always by a new backpack.

Runofthedill,
You made a good decision on getting the Timbuk2 messenger bag. I purchased a Timbuk2 just like that one except it unfortunately does not have a handle, and it's black/grey/black. The guy above is wrong, not all of their messengers do not have a laptop compartment.
I'm assuming that this one provided by Hewlett-Packard does as it say it does. However, you'll keep this bag a long time. I got mine off of eBay for $52 shipped, great deal considering these bags are pricey at $100+. It's by far the best messenger bag I have ever used, the strap does not budge it stays tight and is pretty comfortable.
It really is just a big floppy bag, it isn't nearly as compartmentalized as other messenger bags. There is a side organization panel that holds keys, sync cables, cell phones, etc. Other than that, you've got a lot of room to fill the bag with. It is easily the roomiest messsenger bag I've ever seen. (And trust me, messenger bags typically can never fill up the same amount as a regular traditional backpack might be able to.) -
I am wondering if your DV5T fit inside the Tumbuk2 bag. I ordered off of HP.com with a $50 coupon also in hopes that my DV5T would fit. When i got the bag it didn't fit in there. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
HP's site is very misleading in stating that it will fit all pavilions up to 15.4. -
Really? so is it a small?
-
I can't remember the specific measurements form the tag on the messenger bag but I know for sure the Timbuk2 tag for the laptop compartment said a width of 13.5 and when you look at the dv5t on HP's site it says the width is 14.05.
I spoke to HP and they said they haven't heard any complaints form that bag. I thought maybe mine was defective in the measurements but according to the tag that might not be the case. -
Weird, my Pakuma bag's compartment is about 13.5'' wide too. But my 8510p (15.4'') fits perfectly. I can even fit a ASUS G1S in it. The dv5 might be alittle wider than the 8510p but I dont see it having trouble fitting in my bag.
I am sure the compartment can stretch half an inch? (only 1.25cm?) -
Maaaan, i just ordered this thing for my DV5T. Can anyone else say whether it fits or not? I can still cancel since its the weekend, and save my self some headache.
appreciated! -
Anyone?? I'd really like to cancel the order if its not gonna fit. please advise.
-
I say its a medium, the small's laptop compartment is 11'' wide, the large's is 16'' wide.
-
Thanks guys, i appreciate it!
So technically, if the bag is 14.2, and the laptop is 14.05, it really should fit. I guess i wont cancel for now, i cant find any other info suggesting it shouldnt fit, except for the guy in this thread that says it doesnt.
as soon as i receive the bag (and the actual laptop) i will definitely post! -
-
Well I just tried my friend's dv5z in my Pakuma Choroka K2 its laptop compartment size is...
14.76" x 10.04" x 1.57"
The dv5z fits fine. but then again my bag is wider...Might be a tight fit for the Timbuk2. -
I havent ordered yet but this thread got super interesting. I emailed timbuk2 and they got back to me and said about the same thing you guys did. It says 15.4, it must be a medium. Im gonna wait for future verification before placing this order or maybe just go with a sleeve and a wireless mouse or something. This coupon has become a major pain in the ***. Ill sell it to anybody for 30$ IF THEY WANT IT RIGHT NOW.
-
I will be getting my Timbuk2 bag on wednesday, i will post for sure! -
: )
Glad your getting your Timbuk2 on Weds!I'm sure it will all work out for yah!
(They make some really cool Messenger bags)

I got the bag today. My HP DV6000T does NOT fit. I havent recieved my DV5T yet, but i doubt that will fit either.
The prob is not the width, its the fact that the laptop gets too fat towards the hinge, making it get stuck.
I think im going to slice the laptop puch down one of the corners, and then sew velcro straps on the sides to allow for a fatter laptop.
Im disappointed, but not crushed. Its better than paying $140 for it, just to figure this out. With a little modification, you will be able to fit any 15.4 without worries, and not have to get a bag thats HUGE just to accommodate it.
One thing thats BS is the fact that they dont give you a shoulder strap pad by default. i know when you build your bag thats an option, but come on.
heres a picture, the inside of the bag is HUGE, theres room for whatever you can think of.
-
actually, i dont know what the hell im thinking. Rather that cutting anything, i'll just get a one of those laptop slips, or skins or whatever their called for my HP. theres plenty of room in there for multiple laptops, and this will just sit right up next to the built in one.
-
I am sorry that you had this trouble w/the Timbuk2..By all accounts you would've thought it would fit...
Are you sure you want to alter it to your liking vs. finding another bag that may work for you???
The bag itself does look nice!!! And, I agree..for that amount of money they should have included a shoulder strap
Cin -
Yeah it sucks. I've been wanting one of these for a while, but cant justify spending $140 for one. So what i'm going to do is order a strap pad, http://www.amazon.com/Timbuk2-Strap-Pad-with-Grip/dp/B001BNDIUY/ref=pd_sbs_a_1
and get one of those sleeves for the odd moment that might come up that i take my HP out of the house, because this will be mainly for my macbook.
I would say for anyone interested....safely, you should be able to fit a 14 inch in width laptop, just as long as its not very thick. 13.8 and under, should have no problems. -
And, it looks like your doing that!I looked at the strap, it's nice
Hey, what about calling Timbuk2, and asking them to send you one??? Let them know that you assumed it would've been included ~ and to your dissapointment..it wasn't??? Doesn't hurt to try, I always say!
You can get some really good deals on notebook sleeves
Cin -
It is however, the best messenger bag I've used - the shoulder strap should be included given the price of the bag. However, on eBay and eBags sometimes you can get a shoulder strap for roughly $10.
Given the bag's construction, I think you'll be keeping this bag a long, long time. -
That is exactly why I bought the cheaper ($55 at the moment) Pakuma Choroka K2!
cheaper, just as well build, larger notebook compartment, comfy shoulder strap, just without the funky colours you can get the Timbuk2 with.
-
Just thought i would add this:
There were some tags attached to the bag, and when i was removing them i noticed that one of them had the specs for the bag. it says it was designed for 12 and 15 inch powerbooks, and all other laptops up to 13.5 inches in width.
So, obviously this is the older laptop messenger bag. HP are idiots for posting the wrong specs for this, when the specs were clearly marked on the bag itself.
so yeah, fyi. -
well, this has swayed me into getting an ogio metro and trying to sell my coupon, like I havent been forever, lol. Ill sell a 50$ coupon for 27$, its all on you guys now.
-
remember, guys, the timbuk2 bags are designed to fit apple laptops. So, it may be a 15" sleeve size, but it's designed to fit the macbook pro, so anything fatter (and a lot of 15" pc laptops are thicker) will not fit as well.
This was the case with my father and I. We have two timbuk2 bags between us, that are the same model, both the commute. Mine is from 2005 and is navy and silver, he bought one in 2007 that is all black.
We have identical 15.4" HP laptops. They are physically the same in every way. His fits in his bag, and mine doesn't fit in mine. I called timbuk2, and they said they changed the size to accomodate the shape of the macbook pro relative to the old powerbooks. His sleeve was in fact a different size despite being the same model of bag and labeled exactly the same.
If you want one of these and have a larger laptop, I'd recommend two things-- buying the non-laptop classic messenger, which doesn't have the laptop compartment built in, and spending the $40 you save on a sleeve from Waterfield or Tom Bihn, or taking your laptop with you to a store that sells timbuk2 and physically trying it out before buying.
They are GREAT bags, totally indestructible and very comfortable, but they don't fit EVERYTHING, despite them advertising as "for 15" laptops" -
My personal recommendation is TRAGER... Made in Seattle, WA, entirely, and tough as can be... each one has a weatherproof rating (most are 90, the very largest still higher than almost all brands), they all have lifetime warranties, my own beautiful messenger bag still looks brand new despite being well over 10 years old (their styles and colors are truly timeless, too)... and many places have great sales prices on them. Myself... My old lug-50-pounds-of-textbooks bag will have a sleeve put on the laptop and become its next traveling home... and I'll still have plenty of room for my discs, my mouse, my emergency everythings, and such...
I looked at Timbuk2 for ages... and really, I couldn't figure out just how much of the production was local (as opposed to cheaper and heavily treated materials we get from China... S. American would've been fine, but I'm wary of heavy oils used in something I'll carry around for hours)... and I've got the rest of my life to use this still flawless (despite taking such a beating!) bag I got... way way back when shopping on the internet was a brand new thing. Before ebags, even.
-
Okay, This is the last time, on this page, lol, that Im gonna try selling off my hp coupon. It is a 50$ coupon that hp gave me for screwing up shipping my dv5t. Its in essence like a gift card with no miminum. Its worth 50$, Id take 28$ for it. So if you still want a timbuk 2, you can puchase my coupon and only end up paying around 58 shipped which is like 25$ off what ebags charges.
I bit the bullet and just got an ogio metro off ebay.
