Hey guys, I took your advice and got a Dv1000 over the summer and so far I'm loving it. :hp: With the holidays coming up I might have enough spare cash to spend on a Tv tuner setup. From what I've heard the Dv1000 would require something like a usb tuner? I'm not too sure so I once again I seek your guys' advice. Is there any Tv tuner you guys recommend? Is it worth it to spend the money on a tuner for a Dv1000? Does the tuner pick up basic local channels? What about cable or satellite? Recording is not necessary but it would be nice, basically I'm just looking for portable tv watching. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Yes, a USB tuner would work. I don't use them but the Hauppage unit is well respected. You can watch whatever is plugged in, whether that's cable, dish or gasp, rabbit ears, LOL. Tuners will come with software to help you record, but if you get into this a lot and want to leverage with mobile devices, you may see a benefit with Windows XP Media Center Edition.

What you would have to do, if you bought a TV Tuner, is plug in a coaxial or A/V cables (Depending on what the tuner supports) to the tuner. After that, it would be whatever you have in terms of cable (Sattelite, cable, local channels, pay channels, etc.). So if you have satelite, you would get whatever channels you would have on your regular TV, just on your laptop.

As far as a specific TV tuner, i have seen some that work via USB and i have seen some that are PCMCIA (PC Card). I have seen that the ATI TV WONDER USB 2.0 has gotten good reviews and is a resonable price (< $100). You can read about it here http://www.ati.com/products/tvwonderusb20/index.html . Hope this helps!
